Any words on if we're going to sign another guy before playoffs?

They've been using their spot on Armoni Brooks on 10-days so far. Once his current one is up we might see them either commit to him, promote Champagnie or chase someone else entirely.

With the way the cap works we are gonna want to bring both back on as friendly of deals as possible. We won't have cap space so retaining our guys and using the MLE are our only options outside of the draft to add players.

If Boucher or Thad get too big or long of an offer from elsewhere would be the only reason we don't bring them back.

Length, yes.

Size is less clear. A one year overpay (with a 2nd year unguaranteed) is pretty ideal if they want to play the same game they did with Dragic at this deadline, to potentially swing a big trade at the deadline.

Curious to see whether they prefer (or can get) a couple smaller deals (with similarly friendly term) on both Thad and Boucher or just go for one of them with a bigger number (I'd imagine Thad, if Boucher can find a multi-year MLE somewhere). Also interesting to see whether they are willing to shell out term with their MLE (the only way to get a good player with that money) or just load up on one year deals.

Would you be more against or with the idea of re-signing Chris Boucher and Thaddeus Young this summer? They are the only rotation guys who are free agents in 2022.

Personnally, I'd be more incline to let Chris continue his career elsewhere. It's been a good ride, but I think it would be good for both parts to go this way and to give the Raps some flexibility to do another move.

As for Young, I think it would be great to bring him back on a team friendly deal, but I didn't watch a lot of live games lately, so I'm not sure what kind of level he's playing for the Raps right now!

People( players) do improve. Monk was paid $4 Million in Charlotte on a crappy team and did not perform well.
He received two offers at near minimum - he chose the Lakers
Remember, he is 1St backcourt relief player who can score effectively. Compared to Flynn and Banton offensively he is a superstar. The idea is to have a bench that can score 35 Ppg
Presently Raptors bench players are scoring nice nuts a game.

in December. They would have been dead in the water

It might be more likely that Flynn and Banton can score effectively off the Lakers bench than Monk scores effectively off the Raptors bench. I mean Stanley Johnson has had some big games for the Lakers as well so that should tell you something about the complexity, or lack there of, of the system the Lakers run.

it wasn't just his offensive game he actually played way better on the defensive end too

depends it could be just the fact that he is in LA.. Monk is someone who could be on the radar if they think they can mold him. I would try to go after a THT level guy in the off season via trade.

The fact that the Hornets just allowed his contract to expire without even trading him was the biggest tale.

Monk is a 24 yr old shooting 40% from 3, with the Lakers. Unless the Lakers is clearing house to create cap space for a star (which granted, for them is actually a viable strategy, unlike for other teams), I don't think Monk is going anywhere. Nice player though

Birch and Boucher are worse (and older) than Nurkic, so I don't see Portalnd doing that (unless if maybe we give a pick, in which case it's no longer worth it).

I think free agency this year will be like all other years: minor tweaks on the tail end of the bench with reclamation projects. Doesn't sound exciting but considering the state of our bench it might actually help

We will see how the rest of the season goes but I would like to try to nab Bryant or Nurkic. I think Thomas Bryant may be available now that Washington made their move to grab KP. Nurkic would be a good secondary get. I think he has more offensive upside than a lot of other options. I wouldn't be trying to break up the core except for a number of people. I know Ayton was brought up but I really don't know. I always said its an option or someone they may target but I believe as I did then that to get Ayotn you gotta pay the max. I don't believe will play up to a max level.
