Gobert went from defensive player of the year to defensive liability.

Give me Ayton 10 times outta 10.
Yeah, Ayton is better moving his feet and switching onto guards on the perimeter, so the small-ball hack doesn't work as well against the Suns as the Jazz. Rudy knows he can't guard out there, so he stays in drop coverage or gets caught in no man's land, becoming a liability as you said. And of course, Rudy can't do anything to punish the Clippers on offense. Jazz had no answer to small-ball for 4 straight games.

Ayton, on the other hand, has already forced the Clippers to abandon small-ball and start Zubac, after only 1 game.

Ayton is a far superior offensive player. Can't play small ball against him. His touch around the rim, his ability to cut and having Booker and CP3 as your guards, its tough to stop him. He has already roasted Drummond, Gasol and Jokic, Zubac and Cousins should be no problem.

The big problem for the Jazz was they had no playmakers. You have Conley and Mitchell out there to run PnR with Gobert and you can punish the small ball. But Gobert out there on his lonesome and you just trying to spam the post? Never gonna work.

          • Atlanta playing a bit 'flat' so far.. not a lot of energy / intensity

            • It’s still early but watching Lou Williams and Gallinari defending the Bucks is like watching a small and a big movable pylons surmounted by a cornice lol

Both may have to score 35 points each to overcome the points they give up

              offense > defense, yeah right.

This is the main thing. Utah had nothing to adjust to with Conley out and Mitchell hobbled. The offence doesn't work without them. All their wing players were pretty useless and Gobert had nothing on offence. They're a lot like the Bucks as a finely tuned team that plays a certain way - and really struggles if that gets schemes and doesn't work. Perfectly fitting pieces but not enough guys with off the bounce and shot making skills.

I still don't understand their scheme when they let Mann go off. Gobert collapsed as help to the rim on drives and no one rotated to his man on the perimeter, ever. Should have been an easy rotation.

                      • Trae Young with 37 points, 7 assists and 4 boards after 3 quarters.

Also includes a Hardenesque shoulder-shimmy three pointer

I think hes pretty happy. He got the better player IMO. But the gap is much smaller then what people thought before hand.
                            Trae is balling.
