That's basically the narrative that Grange and Will Lou are pushing these days. If you believe it's not true, then I wonder who even benefits from that storyline?
yeah i got no answer for that other than what deaner has already posited... maybe they have no idea what's going on (wouldn't be the first time) and are just speculating and pandering to the insecurity of this fanbase for eyeballs.

I don't know if that's the story being pushed. Might be more an implication that management or the team is trying to encourage a different focus/type of effort from Scottie, rather than him just sucking or putting in subpar effort - more a redirection of energy than a critique of the level of energy. You know... coaching.

      • Well he's definitely injured to some degree. Just about every game he comes up hobbled after a play. I'm sure last night I noticed him clutching his leg at some point. Just give the kid a few weeks off.

        • What is the overall thought on the future of Barnes as an NBA player? I see people claiming him to be a future #1 option on a team, being the future PG on the team, future all NBA guy.

Watching him over the last two years I'm torn. I don't think he has the offensive feel that a guy like Chris Webber had. He doesn't have the smoothness to his that Pippen had. Is he going to be a peak Boris Diaw/Lamar Odom?

Is a peice or one of the main pieces?

I think he's probably a really great #2 option on a contender. He doesn't seem to have to midrange pullup game (yet) or PnR chops to be a true ball handling #1 option. Part of the reason I advocate for blowing it up is I don't think anyone on the team is a true elite talent. Need to pair Scottie with more. How good would Jaden Ivy have looked as part of the core with Scottie?

              Scottie is the perfect #2.
Remember how everyone says his ceiling is a Draymond Green, or a Kawhi. Even Giannis .
And all those guys needed a good PG.

This is why I hope we land Scoot.

              • the home/road splits for scottie are crazy this year.

he's basically making the leap we all hope he'd make at home this year (18/8/5 with a 121 ORtg and 59.1 TS%) and is some other unrecognizable player on the road (12/6/4 with a 91 ORtg and 43.7 TS%).

he was exactly the same player at home and on the road in his rookie season, so it's kind of hard to make sense of this

                • I don't know how to search for this, but I'd be interested to see how often Siakam and Barnes have good games together. My eye test says when Pascal is hot/working Scottie isn't, and the same the other way. How often have they both had over 20 points in the same game going back to when Pascal came back last season?

I think of Scottie the same as I did last season. He has a higher ceiling than Pascal imo, but comes down to how much work he puts into it. He isn't a freak athlete or talent like Ja, Luka or Zion, so we aren't going to see him as a franchise talent right away. If he ever becomes a top 10 type of player it will likely be a slow and steady rise to get there. Too early to peg him as anything right now.

Not sure but scoring 20 pts isn't the benchmark for a good game. He's a sophomore still and developing his offense.

Not saying that’s the exact benchmark. Just thinking of a stat to try and sort that out

Like him, he can totally dominate in the paint too.

                          • The guy needs 6 weeks off or we're going to see him taken off the court on a stretcher after a non-contact injury. This is very concerning, and I've truly lost trust in this team's medical staff. This medical staff has produced dubious results for a very long time now, and I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until this year, but overuse injuries are happening more and more on this team with more consistency.

Hard to have a single number benchmark for "good game" but b-ball-ref has a "game score" that tries (captures point totals, plus other counting stats like rebounds and assists, etc).

This season, Scottie has played in basically every game Pascal has, but the one he missed Pascal put up a game score of 14, his 6th worst game of the season. Pascal has missed a more significant chunk of the games Scottie has played. In Pascal games, Scottie averages a game score of 12, and in non-Pascal games he averages a game score of 11.

By all accounts, this season at least, they play better together than apart.

                              • good discussion. to me a lot of it comes back to the health discussion they have early in the podcast. he just hasn't looked like the same player physically this year.

the health thing doesn't explain the confounding home/road splits i highlighted above though
