OK, then Raptors in 2021 then.

And if you think the Bulls have been tanking you need to brush up on your tanking theory. They've been trying to be good and sucking at it.
The Bulls were definitely tanking between 1999-2005.

    1999 - #1 pick (Elton Brand)
    2000 - #4 pick (Marcus Fizer)
2001 - #2 pick (Tyson Chandler - traded for Elton Brand)
    2002 - #2 pick (Jay Williams)
    2003 - #7 pick (Kirk Hinrich)
    2004 - #3 pick (Ben Gordon)

They won the lottery in 2008 (Rose) but were mediocre that year (had 33 wins), and coming off a couple of 40+ win seasons before that year. But prior to that, definitely tanking.

OK, sure, didn't realize we were talking about two decades ago. But fair enough.

          He said "since" MJ left.

          • I think every team in the NBA has tanked at least once since MJ left the Bulls. It's been 25 years.

Man, this is the season when the Raps should've tanked. But I get it now why they didn't. Nick wouldn't have agreed to that, but then Masai could have just ignored him, in hindsight. Judging from Masai's (non) moves on the acquisition front you'd think that there was a point this season when he thought about going for a full tank.
I had been critical of Nick's coaching perhaps about 25% into this season and I am happy that people are seeing it now.

To tank this year we would have had to deal Pascal and Fred in the offseason at a minimum. Probably Gary and OG too. And we'd have to not take back talented players in return.

Not saying it was impossible but it would have been very difficult to pull off from a trade standpoint. The bottom 4 teams are extremely bad this year and it's not a successful tank for Wemby if you don't end up bottom 4.

There is also the issue that after Wemby it's not that great a draft. If you don't get Wemby you just bombed your season and roster for a good but not superstar player.

I just don't think it was realistic in the slightest to tank this year.

I'm also pretty anti tank as a team building strategy (for the above reason) so I'm glad we didn't.

Now I'd love a retool this offseason and I think the pressure from fans will be to do that, not run it back. This season was the opposite where the pressure was on to run it back because of how well we finished last year. Looked like project 6'9 might actually be working.

Tanking is not a working strategy. Look at Sixers. Sure Embiid is MVP type player but they tanked to get him and teams that tanked don't win championships

Not to mention, the Philly tank started TEN YEARS AGO. They got Embiid in 2014, how's that been looking since then?

Tanking is not a team-building strategy.

This Barnes situation is really intriguing to me.
You have this very competitive young kid who is also very passionate on winning that chooses games? How is that possible unless there are external factors that forces him to behave like that.

If you draw similarities between magic and him..Some guys just TAKE IT.. now there are possible external factors sure... I do think he is passionate but I also think there are times when he will float.
