  • I do kind of see Scottie as jokic like. The times he has been aggressive and went on runs himself is when he just catches the ball in the post and instantly attacks. He has a way to make these weird tough floaters and push shots around alot of bodies.

For me the next step is him doing that enough teams start to send doubles, then he can use his vision to hit cutters or guys on the perimeter.

      Agreed.
Scottie needs to have a strong mid range game.
I wish he can hook up with DeMar's trainer.

      • The reason scottie can be great is because theres stretches where he’s impossible to defend

        • The 4th quarter explosions stand out to me. Would Scottie be able to apply that amount of aggression throughout a game? I know he mentioned conditioning as something he will focus on this summer. If he can get to the point where he’s driving and shooting that baby hook 3-5 times a quarter, he can get to that 20-22ppg mark with free throws and the occasional midrange jumper/three pointer.

          • Well its better to have a player who plays well in big moments and work backwards instead of a player who plays well in general, but struggles to step up in big moments.

Scottie has it in him, just needs the proper workout and guidance after the talks about how he didn't really work on improving last off season. Lets hope Darko, Jama, etc can bring it out of him.

I think building around Scottie is a big step to getting him to that level. He needs to be the leader or co-leader in order to keep that aggression through a full game and not just standing around watching. I know everyone is going to be quick to say that he'll never be a leader until Pascal and Fred are gone...and that isn't completely false...but he's got to be the one taking that role from them as well. He can't be passive, he's got to demand the ball in certain situations and he's got to put together a consistent campaign to signal it's his team now.

Since we're doing comps, my comp for Barnes is Lamar Odom. When I first saw Barnes as a rookie with that push shot/hook I did a double-take cause he looked almost exactly like rookie Odom. Playing multiple positions on offence, guarding multiple positions. Even the negatives like fading in and out of games.

To me, that is Barnes' floor. His ceiling is much higher but it's up to him as to whether he will get there.

That's a good comp for Scottie's floor. I think he'll be somewhere between Odom and Magic.

                      • Was listening to some of the podcast on the main page with Will Lou and Samson Folk and there was some pretty good material on Scottie and his lack of aggression this past season. They pointed out to a stretch of games Pascal was out with injury and Scottie just didn't step up. The two of them didn't feel like Fred or Pascal held Scottie back at all, and made a good point that Scottie should be able to beat those two guys out as the best player on the team.

Looking forward to see what he's added to his game this off season.

Maybe Scottie is a good teammate who was respecting his elders. There has been a pretty clear pecking order. We know there was some locker room issues. Hope things get cleared up today.

Sure, but we need him to be an Alpha, mamba mentality etc. If he needs to be the biggest assho@le in the world to be the leader of this team then that's what I would like to see next season. I'm predicting a big year for him.

If fred goes and nick who played favourites is gone watch the energy with these guys and darko itll be like night and day. It was clearly evident in the games fred missed

every bench guy needs to be included thats what makes a team. Not make them feel like a leper colony

i listened to this last night too and would say you've accurately summed up will lou's thoughts but not necessarily samson folk's, who i think is great but has a maddening habit of asking his guests interesting questions and then not giving his own feelings on the subject... will lou did turn it around on him and ask what samson's thoughts were, who said he wasn't sure if scottie could be a guy who initiates sets because we haven't really seen it before, but that he could sleepwalk his way to 20-10-6 at his peak as a player with essentially no archetype in nba history.

i haven't re-listened and am just going by memory from last night when i was kinda half awake, but that's what i took away from it
