With his athleticism and size he should average 8 FTA
I think expecting a top 10 in the league FTA per game average from him at this stage might be a little early.

    • He’s also not the most enthusiastic pursuer of contact. Often fades away from it.

              • Fred told him basketball is not supposed to be fun. It's all about getting paid and that's it.

                • Sounds exactly like what a lot of us brought up and witnessed watching the team last year...

Time to let Scottie truly be himself.

                      • One of the great benefits of guys like Lebron, like Magic, is that it’s just so easy to slot players in around them. Give them a big point guard that can’t really create but can shoot and defend - dynamite. A forward that can run the floor and cook defenders with their quickness and put the ball in the hoop - epic. A big man that can roll and finish everything around the hoop - you get the idea. I truly believe Scottie can be like that. He can make all sorts of players work because he’s one of a kind with this unique combination. Darko brought up Jokic for a reason, imposing hulks that can make others better with their joy for the pass don’t grow on trees.

                        • And that’s exactly why a backcourt of Scottie-Trent might work fine, a Batman-Robin combo of Scottie-Pascal could be great, etc. In case I needed to put a finer point on it, ha.

Yeah, Freddy Frowner must be related to Debbie Downer

Barnes first step isn't lebrons though... and again go look at even magic back then and lebron back then and they came in knowing how to dribble... the real advantage of barnes is his vantage point on his passing but without the other tools he can't create the gravity.... he is extremely strong but because he doesn't trust his handle he is... hesitant to attack smaller players like mitchell who can attack his dribble he is smart so he takes the whole game figures out who he can dominate on and then dominates on that person for the 4th quarter but that type of thing doesn't always help because you need someone who will assert themselves throughout all quarters.. that isn't saying he needs to hero ball it.. but he needs to make sure his presence is felt rather than floating until that last quarter and going crazy there.

Again I really think its the handle that holds him back even more than the shot..

And I dont want to hear simmons comparisons because simmons had the speed AND the handle in terms of his acceleration.Barnes simply doesn't have that. He has the tools to be much better. But I once thought his 80th percentile outcome was an all NBA player .. that is looking closer to his 95th percentile outcome. I just wanna see improvement. Clean up the footwork. Give effort throughout an entire game all games... Not just the flashy laker games where its on ESPN. Every game.

look im not a fred van by any means but we can't blame the whole damn thing on fred. Nurse played his part Masai played his part... but most importantly Barnes played his part too ... in terms of touches he got the ball waaaay more than people remember... his play style dictated his usage....

100 times the sum of field goals attempted, a third of assists, turnovers and 0.44 times free throws attempted, all divided by the possessions. That is the usage rate calculation. He doesn't get to the line and if he isn't attempting field goals at a solid rate then yeah your usage will look bad but watching the games he got the ball (possessions).
