Ignore the weird graph lol but Barnes is super efficient on post up hook shots.
Playing him at PF might actually be the best for his career. And not because he fails as pg.
Yep, the entire list is PF and C. It also includes Jokic and Sabonis, who I've said many times we should be utilizing Scottie in a similar way they're utilized (they don't play PG).

I have no idea why anyone would call the hook shot a dying art. I guess because there's less low post action? But you literally see hook shots in every NBA game, thousands over the course of an NBA season.
Scottie’s defensive effort has been really good in spurts, but the schemes clearly have such a higher floor that it’s helping him a lot. One thing that has really stuck out to me this whole preseason is the point of attack defence. It’s been exponentially better across the board. Turns out playing conservatively actually takes advantage of all our length. And the difference between Schroeder fighting through screens vs Fred is almost unquantifiable.

Nurse was over-coaching defense. That's been clear for at least the last 2 seasons, since his schemes were figured out... as far back as the Bubble playoffs vs. the Celtics. But we weren't allowed to criticize coaching, until he left.
Those principles never held up. Doc Rivers and the entire Sixers team was ready and waiting to exploit our defensive principles in the playoffs. Nurse showed his cards in the last regular season game and our principles were laughably easy to scheme into wide open shots and historic opposition ORTGs.
We need to re-evaluate the principles, which are taking away from showcasing the natural defensive talent of the long, versatile types we are bringing in. Nurse is clearly over-coaching defense. Schemes need to be simplified, which he in fact did, to avoid being swept by Philly. Hope that’s a long-term lesson learned.
Speaking of Kawhi… we haven’t won a playoff series since Kawhi left (Long Island Nets doesn’t count). We haven’t been an elite defensive team since Gasol left.

ppl kept saying how bad he was on defense last year even though it was repeatedly pointed out that the excessive/comical ball pressure that caused him to continually get blown by was actually a feature of the scheme rather than an awareness or IQ thing, and that he was otherwise pretty darn good at that end imo.
i think he's going to be somewhere between a very good to all-defense level defender, although his offensive responsibilities may prevent him from reaching his ceiling on that end
wow i made a post and my post count increased by one for the first time in months!
anyhow, i think scottie might make the all star game this year. that's my bold prediction. he's been our best player in the preseason and that might continue if he they keep putting the ball in his hands as the coach has stated is the MO, and if he keeps his aggression up.
think the team will be in that 5 to 9 range in the east and if they get one representative it could be him rather than pascal

Yep, last season it caught up to them and the defense turned into a gimmick rather than a well-planned strategy. Never made sense to have a 6'9 power forward defending much quicker guards 40 feet from the basket. Raps can still be, and should be, aggressive defensively but a more measured approach is going to help all of the players.
I remember watching another team's broadcast (want to say Dallas) and they basically pointed out that 'last season' (21-22) teams panicked against Toronto but then figured out that if the ballhandler just made one simple pass it was 5-4 every possession and you could score easily. That was noticeable from early on in 22-23 how teams moved their offense out further from the three point line and just made simple passes out of the pressure and it was constantly 5-4 or 5-3 even.
Anyway, this preseason basically could not have gone better for Barnes. He looks really good out there on both ends. Needs to hold up over 82 games but it's a terrific start.
twin towers line up. After Jakob, back up center should be Barnes. I don't see space for Boucher, Precious and Koloko. If Barnes and Siakam can shoot this year above average from 3 it'll be encouraging

Have to assume at this point that Koloko is unavailable indefinitely, which means you need both Achiuwa and Boucher
