100% scottie will be a big star. His numbers are off the charts for his age. I'd take him 10 times over a loser like lillard who puts up 30 but won't play defense to save his life. Baring injury or misuse by a team, it's a lock.

You don't even have to be MVP caliber. Look at what Lowry did for the Raptors. He wasn't a guy that scored a lot points but he consistently lead his team to wins. Playing timely defense. Working the refs. Getting guys open looks. Taking charges. Finding a way to get a timely steal or deflection. Leading bench units. The little things. Scottie has been great.. but we're also not a good team and he's played in every game this year.
Like yesterday.. when he was leading that bench unit in the 2nd quarter.. the Rockets took back the lead. We only went back up when IQ and RJ checked in.
He's in his third year still and has a long career ahead of him. So I'm not saying he sucks and needs to be traded. I just think we need to be a bit careful with our expectations. He has a lot of work to do to get to that next level. Making an all-star in his 3rd season is remarkable. So he's on the right track. But I just need to see a lot more from him before I label him as a "big star". Lillard made the playoff 8 times out West. And got to the conference finals as their best player. He wasn't just some empty calorie guy. Of course now he's much older and been injured quite a bit. But at his peak, he was insanely good.

Scottie is a great player no doubt. But can he be relied upon to carry a team to wins? That's really all we care about. Super stars can carry teams to wins. Look at what Embiid did for Philly. Without him they are like 4-13 or something. With him they had one of the best records in the league.

I share your concerns and was wondering the same thing last night. I can't put my finger on it but I wonder if RJ is having that Lowry effect to a lesser degree, where his impact on how the team plays is somehow is greater than his stats may imply. Scottie is struggling somewhat elevating bench units, but we don't really have alot to work with outside of IQ and RJ. I like alot of the players, but in aggregate some combination of Porter, Dick, Brown, Nwora, McDaniels, Boucher, even Jak and Gary in those units has limitations with shot creation. Those are the opportunities for Scottie to really be aggressive offensively, and if successful the rest can feed off of him. Lowry was great in PnR action and could find ways to get the offence going that way, Scottie still lacks there and doesnt have a natural partner with predominant bench units. Looking forward to see if Kelly can help with some of that.
And I bet that's why we brought him in. Not just because he's Canadian and a spacing big.. but because he has that IQ that we want Scottie to develop and bring out of.
Scottie hanging out with the likes of Lebron, Jokic and Luka at the ASG will help him in a lot of ways too. Even though it will only be for a short weekend.

I hate it when Scottie channels his inner Pascal on almoat every play shouting for every call. The passion to win is there but it should be within the bounds of the game. Stop being a diva like Embiid, work hard like a young Giannis and Kawhi.

I think at the beginning of the season, Scottie had improved significantly his conditioning, which helped all aspects of his game. Especially his shot.
That being said, he had OG to guard the best player on the other team.
Now we're asking him to do everything he got better at, and guard the best player on the opposing team.
He will get there. Just not overnight. Ochai will help. Hopefully.
He's young. He's shown he can do it once. He will do it again. This kid has so much upside. I'm looking forward to watching him figure it out.

I mean part of the reason why he did it is because he didn't play well. Frustration. Although still isn't right to do. He'll have to figure stuff out.
And I got flamed for saying Scottie had a shallow bag, but it's pretty clear now... isn't it? His go-to move is basically bully ball from the post, but that only works against certain bigs.
I agree... the frustration is probably Scottie being frustrated at himself for not being able to impose his will on the game (i.e., because of his shallow bag). Players express frustration in different ways. I remember Bosh crying after losing games. lol.

I'm seeing the clip of Scottie walking off the court everywhere but this is the clip I like
Right after the "block" of Scottie by Wemby and an ensuing 3pt shot by the Spurs, Scottie brings the ball up with the shot clock basically off, pounds the ball while starring at the ref for what felt like 30 seconds (you only get the tail end of it on the video),
and then drives straight to the hoop for a dunk with nobody able to stop him.
He's got a little (a lot?) of Giannis in him

Does Scottie even want to be a leader & face-of-the-franchise/league? Maybe he's just happy being a great teammate. Is Masai being a Stage Dad?

This is one of the rare instances where a new coach would fix almost all the problems.
Gonna be so upset if Masai drags his feet to "give Darko a chance" and we waste half of next season sucking before he finally fires Darko.
He made a bad hire, recognize that and fix it.

With his physical advantages he doesn't need a deep bag. Run plays to get him a mismatch and let him attack it. Unfortunately our coach sucks.
