I think if the Raptors had their way, everyone on the team can play PG. That's what they are looking for. For anyone to be able to grab a rebound, run up the court, and make a play before the defense has a chance to set.

So Barnes will be able to play with anyone, since he has that ability.
Yeah, Raptors are trying to create an all 6'9" version of Run TMC + defense.

How about Van Vleet, where does he fit?

      6’1” with shoes/ 6’2” wing span

Man that is vertically and horizontally challenged

Fits at... the point guard position, surrounded by 6'9 dudes with point-forward skills.

I mean, even Lebron doesn't start at point guard, he'll always have someone manning that position for defense and usually shooting ability even if he's often bringing the ball up and initiating the play a good portion of the time.
That's what I mean, the "de facto" PG is the one that runs the half-court (non-transition) offence. That's where I think they should try Barnes at, especially if it involves a Siakam-Barnes pick and roll. They can call someone else PG on the depth chart and have them guard the opposing PG if they want, but we need alternatives on our half-court offence. It was already sputtering and now without Lowry orchestrate things, these guys may have trouble scoring other than just running and gunning after the rebound.

The transition offence will be their forte but we can't do that the whole game. At some point they need good quarterbacking to settle things down. That's when Lowry will be mostly missed, but Barnes got the court vision to play that role too

Other than live-ball turnovers, the Celtics pretty much shut down our transition game in the bubble playoffs. It's just a matter of the opposing team deciding not to send guys to the offensive boards and the coach/players constantly reminding themselves to sprint back on any change of possession. Gotta be able to at least hang in there without those 5-10 minute dry spells, when the game grinds to half-court possessions.

As you can see in that video, Jahmani showed some good defense for his size against taller opponents.

But what I noticed that is more compelling is that he needed high usage, high possessions for his Hail Mary’s. He also didnt realize the odds of getting stuffed under the rim when he drives the ball amongst trees.

But he does have the heart. He definitely bet on himself

                  • Again where does Van Vleet fit in this equation.

Is he a Point Guard or is he a Shooting Guard

                    I am confused

Everybody will be a point guard. Fred is there for leadership and culture setting.

If this is a development year and we are not aiming to be a treadmill/ middling team, I would expect for Nick Nurse to throw Barnes in the fire right off the bat, let him be the floor general.

I would also take that, Van Vleet having a defined role as a leader and culture setter, now that Lowry is gone.

Less Possessions and Less Usage of Fred Van Vleet would greatly benefit the young developing guys and the franchise moving forward

                        • I think less usage, less possessions helps Pascal and Freddie too. I think they both could be more efficient not having to force offence. We still have OG and GTjr to feed and one can argue that they deserve just as many touches. Then you have more quality depth that deserves to get touches.

He's a PG who is also comfortable off ball.

You don't need to be 6'9 for our plan, but you do need high level defense, and FVV brings that. It would be great if he could switch all 5 positions but he can do a great job against opposing PG and decent job against opposing SG so he still fits what we're doing really well. He can also score in a wider variety of ways than most of the other guys so when someone else is ball handling he can be cutting to get open and then score efficiently.

What most (more outside of this forum) would ask of him is to improve his efficiency, less usage and possessions. Recognizing his limitations should go a long way.

                              • So another case of a player growing after drafted. Anthony Edwards apparently is 2" taller according to Chris Finch, and now is 6'6"(with shoes).... I know it's a long shot but if Scottie gets extra lucky and bumps up to 6'10.... Damn
