Keyboard warriors tell me the rookie wall isn't real, and yet NBA rookies say it is. Hmmmm not sure who to believe

Add to that Scottie is among the league leaders in minutes...not just the rookie leader in minutes. Also, he isn't just coasting during those minutes while playing Nick Nurse defense. I liken this to a boot camp type experience for Scottie. Grueling and he probably wasn't prepared for this.

    • He could be the next JV….always the favorite to be scapegoat because Derozan and Lowry will always be given the benefit of the doubt, most especially the volume shooter/ inefficient Derozan

Scottie is now the assuming the role under the shadows of Siakam and Van Vleet

      Derozan is now VanVleet

JV was always the collateral damage, but good for him that he is now flourishing elsewhere

I found it so entertaining but Same people who just the other day scapegoat Siakam have another target in Barnes. Lol

….anyway, one of the benefit of league pass is listening to different commentators around the league saying high praises to the Raptors rookie, one particular play by play analyst of the Warriors stated that he compared Scottie to the other Scottie. So here are some early numbers by the Rookie who “hit a rookie wall”

            Code:
Player From To G GS MP FG% 3P% 2P% eFG% FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK PTS
            Scottie Barnes 2022 2022 16 16 34.9 .480 .250 .500 .490 .720 2.9 5.4 8.4 3.3 1.1 0.6 14.6
            Scottie Pippen* 1988 1988 79 0 20.9 .463 .174 .475 .466 .576 1.5 2.3 3.8 2.1 1.2 0.7 7.9

I do think that listening to other commentators gives really good insights about the team. That said, I do think this is an adjustment in terms of actually playing 82 games. At least in terms of why he may have looked a bit low energy in the first half.

this is fair, there could be moments in the game that he losses concentration but not sure about energy. He may just be less enthusiastic now especially after the no. of losses

but to grab 13 rebounds (8 Defensive rebs and 5 offensive rebs) way more than Birch or Precious playing only 28 minutes is not hitting the rookie wall. Honestly he has more energy hauling those misses, fighting against Draymond and Looney

the talk about this rookie wall is overly exaggerated coming from the same people who not too long ago were in Siakam’s case

yet same people are screaming their lungs out after two Hail Marys by Van Vleet.

              lol.

Losing against Detroit and Cleveland would zap all your enthusiasm as a rookie I supposed

This just confirms the reason I suspected why we blow a lot of fast break opportunities, i.e., because we never pass the ball back to the wide open trailer, or an open teammate filling the lane. Now we know why FVV always barrels to the rim like he has blinders on and gets blocked all the time. He's just following orders of the coaching staff, which is to be aggressive at all times.

Lowry passes it on fast breaks a lot... and it almost always works, so I guess Nurse couldn't say sh*t to him.

                  You know, like this:

Yeah our transition offence is fast but it's out of control a lot. Many times this season they get the steal or force a turnover, but they're so rushed they immediately turn it back over. Can't believe I'm gonna quote Leo Rautins here, but let's "be quick but not rushed". Not every steal/turnover will give you forward path to the bucket, and the ball can sometimes go side to side or even back to the trailer. Sometimes it's not a transition opportunity at all, and idepending on time/score and who's on the floor, you're better off taking care of the ball, settling down and valuing that extra possession.

Vets know when to do one or the other, but we're very green, so they're barreling to the rim all the time (unless there's a guy wide open below the rim). High turnover rates are one of the classic signs of young teams.

                  • Scottie should bottle up his performance in the 4th quarter of last night's game. That's how he should play.

                    • Totally dispute the statement about the team being young equates a high turnover rate

Van Vleet is not young….but just a game or two ago….he had Seven Turnovers. 7 and that is just crazy.

                      • How many times have I seen Scottie talking (explaining) to FVV, sometimes gesturing , when Scottie makes lapses on the court.
                        What is going on there?
Are they putting unnecessary pressure on the kid, thus making him play tight and robotic recently?

No, they're communicating. Needs to happen with rookies and even vet players if they're playing together for the first time. If anything they want Scottie to play loser, shoot a higher volume and take it to the rim more often. He's got a green light.

Speaking of which, did you see that mid court crossover with about 2 min left in the 4th? It was impressive and lended to the idea of scottie bringing up the ball.

Barnes let a few blow by now he is the worst defender ever lol it happens so what. Fred gives up just as much points as he puts up but no one says a word.
