Scottie is doing about as much as he should be expected to at this point. His fingerprints are all over the game almost every night but the pressure to produce raw offensive output is relatively low-- kind of the perfect situation for him. More FGA would be nice but that's not the way he plays the game. He's also shown a capacity to be pretty damn aggressive, we'll just have to wait a year or two before he figures out how to use it.
I think by the start of next year you will see significant changes.

    • Scottie is leading all rookies in scoring. So why the hell are we bitching about his scoring?

cade cunningham is leading all rookies in scoring.

we're bitching about his scoring because he's fallen all the way down to number 2?

Scottie likely won't win the ROY award and that's ok. We have Scottie Barnes. David Thorpe was spot on. Who cares this kid is going to be amazing.

I don't care about ROY. Barnes went from a "zero level scorer" and experts saying his offense will need a ton of work, to him averaging 15 points, hitting 3s and mid range shots with consistency, making nice passes.

I remember saying if Scottie gets a decent 3 ball, he can be a star. Well thats the path he is headed in.

              • When he takes his time and gets in rhythm he can hit an iso elbow jumper over anybody. He's looks so fluid from there, very Kawhi-esque

Cade overtook Scottie in the past week in ppg, the last rookie ladder update said Scottie was in the lead so my bad.

Cade is shooting 38% FG, he's just taking a ton of shots. If Scottie was shooting that poorly I'd be pissed if we were giving him 20 shots a game. I'll take our development system over Detroit's any day.

                  • Another great game by Scottie, pretty much have to keep reminding yourself it's his first year since it really doesn't look like it. I mean why isn't he making more defensive mistakes? Or turning the ball over more? Or taking more bad shots? It's so impressive.

He had a couple weeks there where the defensive mistakes ramped up but he seems to be over that for several games now (not coincidentally the same time the Raptors' overall defence seems to have turned around).

At first I thought, yup, he wont. Then I looked a little closer at it. To me right now it comes down to Scottie and Mobley as their teams are winning the most and they are the 2 most efficient of the top guys.

I expect Cleveland to come back to earth a bit and be closer to 500 than to 5 games above. I also think the Raps can get themselves back to 500 or slightly above as well. If both teams are in a similar position stat wise it will come down to production, and right now those two guys are neck and neck.

Cade has an all-you-chuck membership card and a horrific 90 ORTG, which is a major contributor to the Pistons' NBA worst overall record. He shouldn't be a serious ROY candidate in this modern analytics era.

Most of this year's rookie guards are really inefficient (Green, Cade, Suggs, ...). Bigs are doing okay (Sengun, Wagner, Jones, Mobley, Barnes, etc...). We were so lucky to get Barnes (aka... a bigger Kawhi with playmaking).

I will be shocked. I think the next month and a half will be telling because when we start gaining in the standings again. You will see.
