He was cold. What can you expect.
Scottie was a disaster most of the game. Had a few nice passes midway through but defensively just entirely unengaged and couldn't finish at all on the other end.

    • To be clear: not bailing on the Scottie hype train at all. Development is not linear, still expect great things from him down the road, even this season if he gets over the hump. But he's been brutal lately. Need him to learn from this over the course of the next couple months if we're going to be making any noise this season.

          He was cold all game?

The issues at the end of the game were not like, finishing, they were simple decision making and like, paying attention on defence.

His brain was cold Dan, gotta start wearing a toque in these chilly stadiums.

              True.

That's just it though. It's not missing shots, it's not turnovers. It's the lack of effort at times. The lack of aggression, the poor defensive focus. All of which factor into his overall productivity and effectiveness on the floor. He didn't demonstrate any of that last season which is where the frustration stems from. The team needs him playing at a high level to be as good as it can. Hopefully, it's understanding the grind like you guys have pointed out that is the main issue, which will undoubtedly be alleviated with time. His drastic difference between home and away suggests what you guys are saying might be true. Hopefully you guys are right. This team cannot compete with the big guns in the league without Scottie taking a leap.
Last season he was just really eager and energetic and the game was basic for him because that's all that was expected from him. Stay in front of your man, cut to the basket, shoot open 3's etc. This season he's being asked to guard C's, run the offense like a PG and be on top of the always challenging defensive schemes. He seems overwhelmed at times.

The position-less concept might not be the best system to develop young players and break in bench/depth pieces.

When everybody is doing everything, there’s a lot more opportunity for mis-communication & confusion about roles and responsibilities. Especially when you’re allowing the players to make read-and-react decisions on the fly.

Gotta learn how to juggle 2 balls before you can juggle 10, while also riding a unicycle.

                    • Funnily enough, Scottie has been playing as well as we thought he would at home this season. He is averaging around 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and shooting 51% and 38% 3P. Its on the road where his play drops significantly.

it may not be especially with the redundancy in skill sets that we have drafted you can draft positionless but have different skill sets in those ppl

The splits are insane and we are now getting big enough samples that this appears to lay waste to every other theory about the off-season or developmental issues, etc. What the hell is going on here?

Edit: Just look at the December games. Why does Fred, the system, the coach, etc. all seem to only cause him to shit the bed on the road?

The thing is the system is damn near tailor made for Scottie with his do-it-all skills and ability guard all positions. Maybe he's just slow processing everything that's going right now and that's affecting his reaction time. Hopefully, like with Siakam in the bubble, the reps will pay off down the line.

Its probably a Scottie thing. Developmental issues, but more so mentally than on-court play.

If it was a system/coaching issue, he'd be playing poorly overall, not just on the road.
