Precious' jumper has a nice sit-back action (think T-ross), reminiscent of Michael Beasley - impressive mechanics for a big man but we'll see if there's any accuracy there.
Another comparison is young Amir Johnson. I can't find his finding reach but it was also probably around 9 feet as well. Or, a bigger JYD for old times' sake.

There was a podcast interview just after the draft and Thorpe said "... it's broken'. Have to dig it up.

David Thorpe literally said Barnes shot was broken, and would need to be rebuilt. He watched every one of his games at FSU because his son is also on the team. Thorpe is also a high-end skills development coach, good buddy of Masai and big advocate of Barnes. Says it can be fixed, though, especially since Barnes is such a hard worker. Nurse said it wasn't broken, so there's a difference of opinion there... and Nurse is also a shot doctor.
Either way, if professional coaches are debating semantics on whether a guy's shot is broken or not, suffice to say... he's a non-shooter until he proves otherwise. And I believe Barnes will do just that - just don't know when.

Do we know Barnes is a non-shooter? His splits at FSU weren't that bad and were skewed by a bad stretch. His FT% isn't particularly awful. I get that the seasonal 3PT% doesn't look great but it's one year. He's awkward offensively at this stage, so everything likely looks worse but I'm wondering if his lack of shooting is being oversold. Guess we'll find out.

- OG 3P% .311 > .398 and FT% .563 > .784
- Siakam couldn't shoot 3's at all > .297 (big COVID drop tho) and .678 > .827
- Powell .319 > .411 and .751 > .871
- Boucher .350 > .383 and .565 > .788
They're absolutely onto something with their draft picks & development program. I'm not worried about Barnes at all. May take 2-3 years though.
Overall they're evidently not in a rush to win now, which is interesting given Siakam and FVV's ages. Those guys are right in their primes but management is pushing the team's ceiling 2+ years down the road with this youth movement. They could have gone for Suggs and a win-now C and they aren't. Barnes & Precious needing some shot work also imply a peak that's down the road a bit.

Yuta is a decent shooter as well now. 40% last season (in limited time though)

I dunno, you'd have 2 certified non-shooters (Barnes/Precious) and a very inconsistent shooter (Pascal) on the floor. Opposing teams would throw a lot of zone defense at them. Even with Lowry and FVV on the court, we had trouble with the Heat zones for entire games the last few years. Playoffs would be a disaster.
