this is the correct answer if you decrease GTJ's minutes and add in Siakam and allow one of or two of Siakam, Freddy, OG, Barnes on the floor at all times you shouldn't see big drop offs.
A little dilemma for NN when Siakam is back
However don’t mind to see a Siakam/ Barnes/ OG/ GTJ and Van Vleet line up
However don’t mind to see a Siakam/ Barnes/ OG/ GTJ and Van Vleet line up
for now GTJ has to start
I don't know if there will be drama. OG, Siakam will be starting. Barnes will play ample minutes. How he is used is the question. Is it better to have him bolster the bench or have him optimize the starting unit. Personally, he is young I would have him start and yank him early to give him a rest so he can then run the bench and then you give him a rest and put him back so he can close with the starters. He should be playing 25 minutes to 30 minutes.
GTJ is the odd one out he needs to prove it. I think he might be able to but we will see. He needs to not chuck. If he can't prove himself then you give his spot to OG and have barnes start at the 3.
Barnes, Siakam, OG will be a line up at the 3/4/5 but not for long periods of time. It is a good closing line up but not the line up you want to run the season with to gas them out.
I sure hope we have Barnes get the reps handling the ball, he can be our Magic Johnson if given a chance.
Look I know he watched Magic growing up. He has some serious playmaking chops and has a game that is actually similar to magic sort of kind of. Magic though was otherworldly though. Scottie gets a lot of reps already. We do not need to force it with him bringing the ball up and running point every single play. Again we have actually good vets on this team in Siakam and OG and FVV that should be taking a higher usage. OG needs to be better at picking his spots honestly. I know he is trying to show off some stuff and trying some stuff but that first game was not a great OG game offensively.
Scottie does not need to be the one dude who runs everything on our team UNLESS you are mailing the season in. Young guards do not win games. They don't. Scottie is an amazing player and you can tell he will get even better. Once he can shoot he will be one of the top 2 players in this draft without question. Thing is he needs time to bring along.
Just because you are force feeding a guy doesn't mean you are giving him the chance to succeed or putting him in developmental situations.
Love the excitement about Scottie but you don't throw that kid into the starting PG role, that's batshit. He didn't even start in college, he came off the bench. In game 1 he had a lot of sloppy rookie turnovers. We don't want to amplify that by making him the primary ball handler before he is ready, if he's ever ready. Do we have a single example other than Magic Johnson of someone his size successfully running point in the NBA?

Lebron James and Ben Simmons?

You guys may be right but I swear great things happen the more he touches the ball. I dont care if he brings it up every time but I think it's a good thing for him and the team to get high usage.

You aren't wrong. But he is a rookie. It's not like he isn't given the ball. If you want him to have the ball more then have him play more off the bench. He needs to cut down on the fouls and you will see him in the game for even longer.
Basically what I am telling you is to be patient. He will be GREAT but the difference between him and gasol as Nurse pointed out in one of the preseason pressers... 14 years in the NBA. He will get there. He will improve between now and the end of the year even. Without that shot going in consistently though he will not be given more touches. Watch last game and watch this game. He touches the ball A LOT. You are just enjoying him because he is a very good player and there is nothing wrong with that.
lets ignore lebron james for a minute... look at ben simmons ... first year did it contribute to winning.. also did it allow him to develop a shot... all signs say no.
Also lets be honest.. lebron was truly a point forward and his best position is probably power forward. Ben Simmons shouldn't be running point any more he is close to a small ball center who is ... just who he is .. he is a weird player. In a good way.
Luka isn't really a point guard. He is more of a point forward. Lamelo is in year two lets pump the breaks. He looks good but lets just see. I think he is good but yeah. Also Scottie vs Melo you are comparing completely different players. Also I think Lamelo plays more of a shooting guard type of game who passes as well. Rozier is technically their primary guard along with Hayward.
People just remember knee jerk reactions lead to bad decision making. Remember when GTJ got here and everyone was super happy after the second game.
Again this isn't a slight against scottie at all he looks REALLY good but you don't completely shift your development strategy game to game. Tweaks sure but not an overhaul.

i don't know how you can state these things unless you're making a semantic argument that they are forwards because they guard forwards.
there are scant few players in the history of the league who have dominated the ball more than lebron james, but luka put's lebron to shame in combined usage and assist percentages.
they are absolutely point guards in the traditional sense, offensively, at least

I mean I don't subscribe to traditional positions.
From pure usage though yes you have a point. I still don't think we need to force feed scottie unless we are mailing in the year.
