Really.. John Schuman or whatever his name is, is an idiot. He came to twitter to explain that it was because the Raptors were terrible against teams above .500 and lost to the Cavs twice.

I wrote back telling him isn't Power Rankings done weekly, and if he wants to bring up the Cavs, we beat them once, beat ATL twice and won against Memphis. He did not respond lol.
dude, these are weekly power rankings. not only did the memphis win have a HUGE asterisk next to it, it was over a fucking MONTH ago. same with the cleveland and atlanta wins. he probably didnt respond because he was shaking his head.

when your schedule in the last 7 days involves playing the knicks twice, people don't give a shit.

Good rebuttal, and you can add this if you try him again: We are 7-4 against teams above .500, and 7-2 against the West. ATL is 5-4 vs above .500 and 4-2 vs West, CLE is 3-6 vs West and 8-6 vs above .500.
      Preach!!!!

I don't think you fully read my post. He states that the reason why the Raptors were 10 was because they played useless opponents and lost twice to CLE. Also that we haven't beat a .500 team since American Turkey day.

My rebuttal was that if he was gonna talk about games prior to this week, why not talk about the wins as well.

John whatever his last name is, is just a terrible writer. Every other site has us top 8, which I think is fair. 10 behind CLE is just pathetic. ATL deserves to be where it is (this week) but CLE... NAW

          • It's almost 2015. Basically hours away. And the raps are ranked as the 4th best team. In the league. Strange times.

Hollinger power rankings at #4 spot

We also have a higher chance of winning the championship than golden state.

I didn't even recognize the icon for Washington at number 10. Did they steal our logo?

                • Remember Matt Moore, the @hardwoodparoxysm guy who trashed the Raptors as unimpressive after beating a Memphis team with a few key guys out?

I know how much better the West is, but it's a lazy excuse for some to take a shallow look at emerging Eastern teams like Toronto and Washington. The Raps are now 9-2 against the West. I'm really looking forward to GSW and Portland.

To be clear to those who didn't click the link, he ranked them number 1. In the NBA, not just the East.

That seems extreme, but if you are basing power rankings off a combination of overall play and current play, and take into account the team is missing their second best player, I guess you can make an argument.

They aren't number 2, they're number 4 behind Chicago and Portland. I don't know why the rankings are wrong in that window, but if you look at the rating, you can see it. Or just going to ESPN NBA page and clicking rankings will show it properly.

Yeah, sorry for lack of clarity I was thinking of his earlier opinion and it reminded me the "west is best" narrative that's true but is overlooking what is looking like some good teams at the top of the East. Very interesting he has Toronto at #1 now and a comment about their play "winning over fans across the nation."

"After a disappointing start to their road trip (what feels like the first time they've used their passports all year), the Raptors rebound from a loss to Chicago to humiliate the Clippers in Los Angeles, then win in Denver on the dreaded back-to-back. Toronto has done everything you can ask a team to do to show it's a legit contender, and have captured the hearts of NBA fans across the nation."
To which nation do you suppose he is referring? Hopefully there is a 8 year old future kevin durant out there starting to adopt a new favorite basketball team.

                              • Not a great off night for the raps. Bulls and Wash each win by one bucket. I guess it's a bit to early to scoreboard watch though.
