ESPN is pretty lazy and I don't know if any of the guys making their mock draft list are doing any research or just basing off lists from other sites.

I find tankathon is pretty decent and they have Christie at 38 and Terry at 27.
ESPN is Jonathan Givony who is actually the best in the business. They got rid of Chad Ford a while ago. Definitely not lazy and very plugged in to what's going on between teams. It's behind a pay wall but I pay for ESPN+.

All Givony does is cover the NBA draft and he's been doing it for nearly two decades. He was the one who started draftexpress and he was so good ESPN brought him in.

I think they might go with a defensive wing type of player. Someone like Minott, Watson or Procida for example. There are a few of these types likely available in the 2nd round. We like these 6-8/6'9 guys with long arms, and that can play defense but not do much else.
They'll definitely go defensive player if they make a pick, but will also look at things like motor, athleticism, ability to play make and of course length as you have pointed out.

I'm still leaning more towards them picking a guard than a forward. They have OG, Siakam, and Barnes who will get a lot of mins at F and then Boucher, Thad and some of the young guys they want to develop.

At guard they have Fred and Trent and the guys behind them were not encouraging. Just seems like more of a position of need.

I don't think we look at positions the way we used to. Pascal and Scottie were our PG's last year. Precious was a C, yet so was Scottie and OG at times. I I think they just like versatility. Can you switch on defense? Can you play 3 or 4 positions?

I thought those guys just joined ESPN recently? Have they been doing the mock draft for ESPN all season?

Thats where you draft a player that is the best of both worlds. Dalen Terry is listed as a guard at 6'7 and Caleb Houston is listed as a guard at 6'8.

Givony has been with ESPN for a while now. He has been busy with this year's draft, he was talking about on Lowe's podcast.

For sure, but there are some skills which are still mostly relegated to positions.

Not a lot of 6-9 guys shoot like Trent or Fred and same for there generally aren't a lot of play makers that size either.

I definitely see Siakam and Barnes handling the ball a lot, but teams will adjust to that. They will start trapping and pressuring full court and that is when you will need guards out there that can handle the ball.

I didn't watch a lot of tape on Caleb, but in what I did see he doesn't seem to handle to ball much. More of a guard in the mold of Trent. Dalen is a PG, no question.

Caleb is listed at guard, but he is more a shooter than a ball handler/playmaker. Raptors could use shooting and him being 6'8 is intriguing.

Terry seems like is the opposite. Good playmaker/ball handler, not much of a scorer. Sounds a lot like Banton.

Banton is exactly who I was thinking Terry compares to, but he seems like he's more locked in and has better defense. Also seems to have a better shot. I don't know how many times this season I found myself thinking that we could really use Banton on the court.

Agreed. If anything, it seems true guards and true centres are at a major disadvantage with the way Toronto plays right now.

Having said that, hopefully they are looking for some offensive firepower this off season either through the draft or otherwise.

                        • Here's another intriguing name to throw out there. Josh Minott. Weve worked him out so he's a possibility.

                          Some key quotes about him.

Today's NBA largely revolves around the position-less concept. And Minott is a perfect fit for that. He can handle the ball, distribute it, score at all three levels. He plays with a large amount of intensity and has a high IQ. The upside is what's most intriguing for NBA teams. While not exactly a project, Minott does have work to do.

"... the analytics on Minott are really impressive, with a sky-high steal rate of a big forward (3.6 per 100 possessions in AAC play), a positive assist-turnover rate and a 14.4 percent rebound rate despite often paying next to a lottery center," wrote former Memphis Grizzlies vice president of basketball operations John Hollinger, who ranked Minott as his No. 10 draft-eligible prospect. "History says it would be folly to ignore a player who passes this deftly and gets his hand on this many balls at the defensive end."

“If you draft him, he’ll be like a lottery pick in two years,” Hall of Famer Larry Brown said. “He’s young, long, athletic quick. He’s just got to grow and get better. He grew 2 inches when I was there. He’s that high-twitch athlete. So many NBA people have called me about him. A couple of years, you might have a diamond.’’

                          • There's a lot of teams with multiple picks and reports of many of them willing to deal wouldn't be surprised if we try and grab another pick. We are going to need some more rookie scale contracts down the road when this core comes up for resigning

                              David Roddy:

"At 6-5 and 255 he’s built more like a football player but has an extremely high skill level with the ball and is incredibly efficient.
Roddy has a surprisingly quick first step and can dance with the ball on the perimeter and blow by his man and get to the hoop. He’s a great ball-handler and an overall crafty offensive player. He’s also a big-time shot maker, hitting an outstanding 57% from the field and over 46% from 3.
Roddy isn’t your typical NBA prospect but he fits in today’s NBA as a multi-dimensional forward who can play small-ball 4 or even 5."

And with the 33rd pick, the Toronto Raptors zig while everyone else zags!
                              What’s the downside?

                              • Primary ballhandler in college, looks like his shooting was suspect before this season though. Only 69% from the line as well.

6’5 with 6’11 wingspan and 250 pounds though, could be a grant williams type
