Things we found out about McCaw:

1) He wasn't actually 6'7". He was 6'5"
2) He had no real guard skills.
3) He was hugely overrated as a defender.
4) He couldn't be trusted.

He was taller than Lowry and FVV, so we can give him that.

McCaw should have been the 14th man too.. just saying that Nurse has his favourites.. and sometimes it's not obvious who those guys are. It's not just the best guys or the the guys with the best IQ. Or the best defenders. Because none of that explained his love for McCaw who was getting over 20mpg.

Every coach has his favorites. The explanation for why he played McCaw isn't complicated or mysterious. McCaw was a big guard whom Nurse trusted in the Raptors schemes. You don't have to agree with that (I sure didn't) and it was a disaster when he was on the court but the rationale was clear.

The reason why Banton and Champagnie aren't playing is cause they are green. Dragic is in Miami. Flynn doesn't suit the style of play. Yuta is out right now. Bonga isn't better than the other options available on a team with 1,500 forwards. That's the team. Out of that group, there aren't any guys that you need to move heaven and earth to get on the floor right now. Banton and Champagnie have shown they can play and they'll continue to get looks but they ain't ready for consistent minutes.

McCaw has been hurt (a lot). In 2020, when we were on a 60 win pace and had Lowry, Fred, Norm, etc.. he averaged over 24mpg. Only played in 37 games and not because of DNP-CD's.. he was hurt then too.

When Mccaw and Flynn were on the team together we played Flynn and not Mccaw. Not sure if that's due to injury or not but when Nurse had a choice he chose Flynn.
