Uh, false. We only traded for Lowry AFTER we missed out on Nash.

BC made a lot of dumb moves but it's weird that people try to diminish the actual good things he did.
I don't try to diminish the individual moves he made....I berate him for the horrible lack of, well basically vision and patience, which are both pretty key in a GM role. Guy just could not form a plan and stick to it, and would make moves out of some demented reflex he had or something, without really considering how much sense the move would make when added to the whole.

A DIRECT quote from Lowry himself:
“I didn’t want to get traded,” Lowry said. “I knew [Toronto was] trying to get Steve Nash. This is what they said: They wanted Steve Nash to be the point guard for two years and then me learn behind Nash and to get paid and be the starter after Steve called it a career. I said, ‘No, I don’t want to be a backup. You’re not trading for me to be a backup.’ They did the trade anyway, but they didn’t get Steve.”
"My biggest concern as a coach is to not confuse winning with progress." - Steve Kerr
"If it's unacceptable in defeat, it's unacceptable in victory." - Jeff Van Gundy

I'm not saying Lowry's wrong or anything but I remember almost certainly that the order went:

          1. We signed Fields
          2. Nash signs in LA
          3. We traded for Lowry

Parker was OK. The guy I will never forgive BC for was Linas Kleiza. As much as some people hate Vasquez lately, I hated Kleiza twice as much. Only thing he did well was ensuring whatever team he was on would get a high draft pick.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

He even fucked that up for us...

That's what ended up happening but the report implied that the Raptors were interested in Lowry even if they were able to get Nash to agree to come to Toronto. They just pursued the trade harder when they heard that Nash was trying to get himself to LA.

                  http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/81...ry-sources-say

The Toronto Raptors have acquired guard Kyle Lowry from the Houston Rockets in exchange for forward Gary Forbes and a protected future first-round draft pick, sources tell ESPN.

The Raptors have been talking with the Rockets about prospective Lowry deals for weeks, sources said, and seriously discussed the prospect of swapping the versatile guard for Toronto's No. 8 pick in last month's draft.

Lowry, a seventh-year pro, averaged 14.3 points and 6.6 assists per games last year for the Rockets.

ESPN.com reported Sunday the Raptors were still interested in trading for Lowry even if they had convinced Canadian icon Steve Nash to accept their three-year, $36 million offer in free agency. When Nash opted to urge the Phoenix Suns to instead get him to the Los Angeles Lakers via a sign-and-trade deal, sources say Toronto ramped up its pursuit of Lowry.
