Everything Playoffs 2022 (Non-Raptors Thread)

nash isn't their problem... their problem was the following:

-Chemistry issues.

-Defensively they don't have enough, especially with their second-best defensive player (Simmons) playing on the bench.

-Fit with Simmons when he is back will be interesting because Kyrie is best with the ball in his hands but so is Simmons, because Simmons is not a shooting threat... so how does that work given that you aren't optimizing either.

-The loss of Joe Harris.

-Having a bunch of players who are WELL past their prime on the bench trying to hold it down. It can work here and there in the regular season but during the playoffs you gotta have guys who can produced at a much higher and more consistent rate. I am and would always be worried about signing a guy who is beyond the age of 34 and has a bunch of knee issues. The combination is tough. If a guy is 25 and has knee issues.. it may just be luck but when you get on in years it is different. (Blake Griffin, Millsap, and Aldridge). The combination of those guys all being older and one even having some sort of heart condition isn't great.

-Joe Harris is underrated as an offensive release valve..

There best chance was with Harden. Their best two chances was last year and this year. Last year was just unlucky but that was TRULY their best shot at winning a chip. Moving forward they will always be a dangerous team but they will potentially have injury problems to deal with... although this is technically the healthiest Kyrie will be moving into next season given that he only played half the year. It probably actually added some longevity to his career. So we will see. Even still, I just think there is a good chance they end up being a middling performance team as they try to figure out the chemistry next year.

Your right on all fronts I think. Durant struggling in this series a little too, only 11 FGA last night for some reason. Credit to the Celtics D, which is really really good. The nets D, which can be decent at times, just doesn't have the tools to deal with a roster like Bostons, that can score so well in a variety of ways. The roster certainly isn't ideal but the chemistry is a big problem. Nobody wants to go to war with kyrie. I've noticed, Durant is a great teammate. He gets pumped when a teammate scores or makes a big play. That's how you rally the troops. Kyrie doesn't give a shit unless it's him or Durant. It's just a job to him, he's not the level of competitor you need as a number 2 and leader. I'm not sure Simmons will help much either, he has some of the same issues I think, but at least he may be able to slow Tatum.

Not only are they down 3 to zip to the Chowders. They have looked old as Boston takes it to them game after game.
Exacerbating the old and slow that is Kyrie (30 yrs old) is due an extension next season and Durants (now 33 years old) extension (already in place) runs for another 4 years with a cap hit of 50 odd M$ for 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Its going to be an introspective summer in Brooklyn.

Are the 3 amigo banana boat super teams of the Lebron era now at the tipping point as a strategy ?
Can you afford 3 max deals and then pray you are able to hit on vet minimums and mid level exceptions to get it over the line ?

Biggest difference is Utah is a really old team. Memphis is not. Plus Memphis has a lot more cap room than Utah does to make additional moves without losing players.

Another difference is you have the blueprint on how to beat the Jazz. They have bad perimeter defenders, play small ball, drive and kick. The team won't get any better.

What’s your point? Those are two completely different situations. The Jazz are in year six of their run and have never made it to a conference finals. Memphis is in year two and has already overachieved wildly this season. This Grizzlies team isn’t near its final form.

The Nets supporting cast were their best players last night. Brooklyn’s issue is that there is no such thing as part-time superstars and the Nets have two of them.

What’s your point? Those are two completely different situations. The Jazz are in year six of their run and have never made it to a conference finals. Memphis is in year two and has already overachieved wildly this season. This Grizzlies team isn’t near its final form.

That both are performing at the same level in the playoffs, Memphis is actually underachieving more since they were a higher seed. I think both teams need tweaks around the edges not being blown up.

Mike Conley and Bogdanovic are getting old but only signed through next year, everyone else important is under 30, and Mitchell is only 25. I think they should look at trading Conley for some better perimeter defenders who complement Gobert better and they'd remain a top contender. The west is a difficult conference, it's not shameful to go out in the semis.
