curious what makes you consider cam johnson any more of a shooting guard than, say, OG? i don't watch a ton of suns but they seem to me to have similar skillsets, with johnson being the better shooter and OG being the better and more versatile defender.
OG can definitely play the 2. He;s shown it in the past. In fact the starting lineup that that I wanted them to go with before the season began was Birch, Siakam, Barnes, OG and FVV. That is still an option next year with Precious obviously replacing Birch.

As for Cam Johnson, i'm thinking if they go back to playing small with Siakam, OG and Barnes playing 5-4-3, then they definitely a 2 guard. I prefer a 3D guy to play the 2 someone like Cam Johnson.

Like I said before, Cam Johnson would be the perfect 2 guard for this team i'm just not sure if he's available.

Yep, 3 and D needs to also handle the rock. Specialists like Korver and Reddick are also going the way of the dodo.

We definitely need shooting... lengthy defender, that can shoot, and bring up the ball... that's a hard guy to get lol
Yeah those guys are paid a lot. Lonzo Ball fits that mold but I don't think Chicago gives him up.

Do we even need a PG ?
Nope, just players capable of bringing it up the floor under pressure.

i don't really understand the compulsion to identify who is playing what position. siakam brought the ball up the floor the most in the first half. scottie brought the ball up the floor the most in the second half. pascal initiated the most sets in the half court, same as the regular season, but the duties were shared with other players like scottie, same as the regular season.

scottie spent the most time guarding harden, but also spent time on embiid and switched onto others. siakam started most possessions on harris, but also switched onto others including ballhandlers.

i mean based on all that, who is the point guard? and why does it matter?

5 out doesn't mean just shooting either. When you have a C like Precious who you can kick out to and he can immediately put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, it puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

It's pretty crazy but the offense you would teach to kids just learning to play basketball (5 out) has become the most effective offense in the NBA. I know it's not exactly 5-out but it's in the ballpark.

People always talk about the death of the center, but we might as well say the death of the point guard is just as real. I mean that in the sense of the defacto "short guy that dribbles and passes"

If you wanna be a quality starter in today's nba, you need to ball handle, defend and shoot. The Raptors, the warriors and the Celtics are living proof in the new scheme. You'd rather have 5 capable wings, then the positions of old.

The big difference of the long lineup vs the Fred lineup is we had a big long player guarding Maxey and he can't deal with it. Maxey was having his way with Fred. Maxey is shooting 9-26 since Fred went down and hasn't scored more than 12 points.

We are very long starting Scottie at PG, that could help in this series. I think it's good for Scottie's development getting these important playoff minutes at PG so early in his career. But of course we are not better off without a healthy, all star guard. Even if Fred got healthy enough to come off the bench and provide shooting that would be helpful.
