Except if he signs an offer sheet with team x, then he can't be traded to team x for a year - so by signing the offer sheet, he runs the risk of Phoenix matching the offer, and therefore not being able to be traded to the team that wanted him.
That is true but then they have to pay him the max potentially which has been suggested they don't want to do. I don't think they are incentivized to do that.

Wut. Fred posted career highs in win shares, points and assists and the highest eFG% of his career since becoming even a part time starter, made his first all star team, received his first vote for an all-NBA spot, and got more votes for all-defence than one of the guys named to the all-defence team after never before receiving more than 2 votes. Clearly in decline, that guy.
So you think he’ll do better this year?

Right, they don't. Atlanta had the same predicament with John Collins. He wanted a max, they couldn't come up with an extension. When free agency hit, he signed back for less than the max and didn't sign an offer sheet elsewhere.

This finals once again highlighted our most pressing need - SHOOTERS!
We are the Celtics-lite who got outshot by a team that almost always has at least 3 knockdown shooters on the floor, at all times.
I think Wiggins shutting down Tatum was the real story, plus Curry is a top 5 player all time so that always helps.

Its easy to say Warriors won because of shooters when they have the greatest shooter of all time and the gravity he has is ridiculous.

                • Phoenix still has all the leverage.

They can match and still be under the luxury tax next season. Nothing is going to force their hand here.

Pistons are the only realistic team with cap space who could sign him without a S&T and for sure Phoenix would say we're matching unless you send us assets.

Then as you guys showed he wouldn't be able to be traded to Detroit but could anywhere else with his consent. But again Phoenix is under the tax so they could just run it back since they'd be a title contender once again with Ayton back. The money next year won't force them to make a move.

The next season they can send him wherever they please and he has no choice. So salary cap issues fixed if they so wish.

Phoenix can absolutely play hardball here and they will. You don't give up your 1st overall pick with massive value for nothing.

This is why I'm confident an offer of Trent plus trash is not gonna get it done.

If Atlanta doesn't get Gobert they're clearly willing to part with Collins, who is leaps and bounds better than Trent. They're also willing to move Capella, who again is far more valuable than Trent. And they're willing to move their 1st this year, which is again better value than Trent.

That's just one team. Once it's sign and trade time with Ayton anyone can trade for him and most teams will be interested and will offer more than Trent plus trash.

I'd love to get Ayton but if you guys think Trent plus trash gets it done you're not operating in reality.

Yeah he's by far the greatest 3pt shooter of all time. Why don't we just go get one of those? Masai is so dumb.

If course we won't get a Curry, but a shooter or two would help a lot.
Pascal or Scottie drives and kicks out to open shooters. Splash!

                        so maybe ayton isn't realistic

                        • If Orlando takes Chet in the draft there should be a couple centre's from their roster which become available in a trade. Not sure there's anyone there of interest, but they have young prospects.

honestly for the MLE that wouldn't be a bad option. I am not as high on him as Kag.
