i think they would have been one of the league's absolute worst teams regardless of lamelo's health (they have lost all 4 of their preseason games by an average of 21 points and their comically bad defense from last year somehow looks even worse this preseason), but they are 100% going to throw their hat in that ring now

Anyone worried about the Raptors missing the playoffs isn't ready for the tank a thon that's gonna happen around the league this season. If you're not a contender it behooves you to shit the bed this season for a shot at Victor or Scoot.
Are you saying we're going to pile up the Ws?

I’d take Scary Terry for the guard depth/shooting/dribble
          penetration.

I think we need a true 1A superstar but I don’t know if any are going to be available this year.

Yep. It could be like the Wiggins draft year. Cavs, Bucks, Celtics, Sixers and Magic were all tanking hard. Raps went 16-2 vs those teams which kicked off the WeTheNorth Era.

            • I'm not too worried about the outcomes of these preseason games... with exception to the Celtics game, the starters and key rotation players were hanging in there against the opposing teams starters. Hopefully we can find some kind of 3pt. shooting rhythm before the season.

                • The Dreymond incident is sick. So we now tell our kids it's fine to throw a punch if you get mad, no consequences, right? The guy is a total scumbag, and the league and team are pathetic to allow this to just go unpunished.

Anyone of us takes a punch at someone at work and we are in jail and lose our jobs. Dreymond gets a week off and $50 fine.

There are so many fights at NFL training camps that it is almost daily now. Hell, Aaron Donald was swinging a helmet at people. This stuff happens and it happens in pros, college, high school and middle school. Hell, couple of guys on my son's Timbits hockey team used to fight every practice.

Don't like what Green did and you definitely don't do that to a teammate (just have a good ol' fashioned wrasslin match) but it's a team issue and they've dealt with it. If Poole doesn't like how they dealt with it, then I am sure he will get a big contract somewhere else.

As for what it teaches kids, while I do agree they should try to set a good example as much as possible, not disciplining Green here isn't teaching kids that it's okay to cheap shot someone. Circumstance and context matter. The NBA has to take a lot of factors into consideration not just public perception.

                    • If it had been a skirmish and a few harmless hands thrown, no big deal likely.
But the sucker punch, the severity of it, the helplessness of Poole....well, Draymond is just a dick.

It's one thing to push and argue, and even sometimes fight, but greens straight up assault from a pushing match is completely different. He fights just like he plays basketball, cheap and dirty.

Why should Poole have to leave if he doesn't like it? He probably doesn't even feel safe at this point but will say nothing to save face.

But no, the nba is sending a clear message that this is acceptable behavior, zero consequence.
So your saying this circumstance it's OK what did? Since you seem to be trying hard to justify it.

He is. You don’t cheap shot anyone let alone a teammate. Good way to really injure someone. Just having a hard time with the ‘won’t someone think of the children’ and ‘the NBA says violence is okay’ hysterics.

Any normal job, you are fired and charged with assault on the spot.

The discrepancy of how the NBA react to different players and different incidences is astonishing. Jalen Harris gets caught with illegal substance in his system, no due process, no second chances, not allowing his own team to handle it internally but instead just bans him for a year. Draymond knocks out his team-mates with a sucker punch on camera with the video going viral and the NBA says nothing, allows the Warriors handle it (which they allowed him to take some time off and pay a small fine lol).

Will the new rules help the Raptors?

"The Raptors had a lengthy meeting with Monty McCutchen, the NBA’s head of referee development and training, who introduced the "points of emphasis" the league will be focusing on this season. One of the points is that behaviour on team benches will be more closely monitored for activities that cross the line of fair play – standing for extending periods, getting too near the floor during play or excessively harassing opponents lining up for a three-point shot from the corner – will all be actions which – if judged excessive – will result in a warning and subsequently a technical foul.

More pertinent for the Raptors is the elimination of the "take foul," where the defensive team – often after their own turnover – tries to eliminate a potential fast-break opportunity by immediately fouling the offensive team with no intention of making a play on the ball. Plays judged as take fouls will now result in the offensive team being rewarded one free throw by a shooter of its choosing and keeping possession of the ball."

The new rules are all opinion/discretionary calls.

Giving referees who are already the most inept/inconsistent, more diescretionary calls to influence games is the highpoint of lunacy. They seriously want to give NBA refs the ability to decide if a bench player has stood up too long or someone trash talked/heckled too well? Why not let them give style points for dunks?

Just exactly what the NBA and particularly the Raptors don't need. smh
