Nope, it's time for irrational optimism.
Jalen Harris is an Uber efficient scoring guard.
In 13 games with the Raptors he shot
50% FG on 5.5 attempts
47% 3pt on 2.8 attempts
78% FT on 0.7 attempts
63.2% TS
That was in 13 mpg
In his best game of the season he put up
31 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl
12/21 FG, 5/12 3PT, 4/4 FT
He's exactly what our bench was missing. Microwave scorer. The year off has only made him better.
Being realistic I think he definitely gets a regular contract not a 2 way. He was very good at the NBA level, 13 games is a big enough sample size to show he belongs.

13.8 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, 1stl in 18 games. 38.5% from the field, 29.5% from 3. Played about 28 mpg.
I'd need to see something from him before we give him another contract. But bring him into camp and summer league and let's see what he's got.

He's not in that level.
Can he shoot? Yes, of course. At an absolutely elite level. Very good at relocating and catching etc etc. But he’s useless at nearly everything else and was one of the most targeted ISO defenders in the league this season.
Not a fan of specialists in general, especially come playoff time and trading GTJ for DRob is basically saying get rid of all the other stuff GTJ is decent to good at just to get better catch and shoot 3’s.

He didn't have a great year in Europe though. Just looking at his stats:

He played great in the NBA, hasn't had any injuries, just got older, stronger, and more skilled.
I'm sure it was very difficult starting your nba career, ending the season on a roll, then getting banned for some drug bullshit no one else has ever been banned for (that I can recall). Now he's gotta go play in a foreign league where he doesn't speak the language or know anybody, and Europe is a different style of play.
He's gonna come back super motivated and perform. I hope we sign him to a cheap ass 3 year deal and reap the benefits.

And that is exactly what we need. Trent on the other hand has no elite skills. One, he doesn't pass. Two, his ball handling is below average. Three, he's a horrible finisher. Four, his shooting is up and down. He'll shoot 8/10 from 3 one game and 1/10 the next game. The only thing that he has on his side is age.
Robinson over the last 3 years has had 85%+ of his shots be 3’s while 95%+ of them were assisted while offering absolutely nothing else. He hit a slightly better percentage over GTJ on tightly contested 3’s while shooting worse when open and a worse percentage overall from 3.
Gary meanwhile only shot half of his shots from behind the arc, and nearly 25% of his 3’s were unassisted, while also shooting less corner 3’s than Duncan (which would lead to a lower overall 3 point percentage).

Also... it's easier to score in the NBA, than in Europe.

I'm not sure if he got more skilled. Maybe he developed bad habits down in Italy and he won't be able to get back to who he was in Tampa. That's why it's a wait and see. I mean if he shows up to camp with a bad attitude, and he looks worse than he did before he got suspended, then I'd want no part of him.
He definitely showed promise, especially against Dallas in that one game. But let's see if he has some moxy because he obviously didn't show he belonged in the NBA from his stats down in Italy. 38.5% from the field.. that's gross.

Disagree. Trent is a very good shooter and offers scoring on at least 2 levels (he needs to improve his interior scoring for sure), is better than Robinson defensively, ball handling is miles better than Rob etc etc.

2. Robinson is a much better shooter. It's not close. I know he's struggling shooting the ball right now that's why he's not playing much. But it's one of those things. Remember when Danny Green couldn't hit a 3 in the Bucks series? from what I recall the Raptors ended up benching Green in the Bucks series. That's what's going on with Robinson right now.
Trent is absolutely a bad defender. He's definitely better than Robinson though, and degrees matter here.
The most important thing is I don't think I'd want either player locked in long term. At least with Trent we have the opportunity in the short term to use him in a trade, or if that fails then he walks and it clears up our books for the raises our other key players will want. With Robinson we've got heavy money invested in a guy who simply put will not play that much here especially in the playoffs.
