The most frustrating periods I remember last season were out flat out inability to score. I would move Fred or OG in the right package for sure and yes, I'd sacrifice a bit of D for a dynamic scorer.
I would sacrifice fred and gary over fred and og.. losing fred would mean a jump down in defence anyways.. why trade two of your better defenders ?

Why would the Jazz have any interest in Fred? Fred is 28. Trading Mitchell means they're starting all over again so they'd want young players and draft picks back. Look at who they got for Gobert. They got Kessler and a bunch of 1st.
that is the other thing.. not hte age part but the fact that they have a huge incentive to lose this year.

This is a truly astonishing take. Between G-Leaguer (as in literally not signed by the Raptors and could sign with any other team at the drop of a hat), two-way player and benchwarmer, let's get our all-star, all-defence shooter off the team, pronto!

Frankly it just gets tricky figuring out who to bench. Kind of need Precious to start at C to have as much defence around Mitchell as possible. Scottie to the bench? OG? Has to be one of the two I think, probably Scottie (makes more sense as a creator off the bench than OG does as a 3+D off the bench). Start big in the front court, small in the back court, and then Mitchell and FVV alternate subs to limit their playing time together (with the pair being fairly short) and cover off all 48 minutes with PG play, while Scottie comes in to support each of them, and then you figure out a closing lineup, maybe you go small again with Scottie in for Precious.
any trade that results in a lineup where it makes the most sense to bring scottie off the bench is a non-starter to me.

and i dislike the idea of starting that small in the back court. i hate the idea of trading for mitchell period, but if we do i'd want fred going out with scottie and pascal sharing primary playmaking duties and mitchell in an off-ball role.

and i like fred better than mitchell so i'd rather just not do that trade.

I slept on Mitchell, and I feel like he could really fit what we have going. I love that he's only 25 and has a long term deal still. He's not leaving anytime soon. He would generate instant offense for us, which we need since we struggle to score for long stretches in games.

Defense is a concern, but looking deeper..

He lead Utah in deflections at 2.4 a game, steals per game at 1.5 and loose balls recovered at 1.0. So he was their best generator of possessions at least from the perimeter.

You could plug in Mitchell into Gary's role and I doubt we'd see a serious drop off in defense at all. If we could get Vanderbilt back in a deal with Mitchell it may soften the blow a bit by losing OG. And you would need to include OG to beat a NY deal.

Either way it comes back down to the pick capital. I don't steal picks from Tolzman. Plus Bobby/Masai have relied on picks to get better in the short term by including them in trades.. we used one on Thad just most recently. I'd do OG+Gary+Svi with 2 firsts and a 2nd for Mitchell and Vanderbilt. Can't combine players in a Vanderbilt trade, but we could do two trades here: OG+Gary+2 firsts for Mitchell. Svi+2nd for Vanderbilt.

this is my thought .... is defence is a concern but exactly he can fit into garys role with better offence. but i'm not trading og

Yeah, maybe a bit much but at least it's close. Not like the absurd suggestions for KD.

I'd prefer Trent plus more picks but if OG is unhappy with his offensive role now he's gonna be really unhappy if we add Mitchell. I think OG has more trade value so maybe OG, 3 picks and filler is a fair deal?

I know everyone will want to keep OG for his defense but I'm pretty sure he won't be happy as a defensive specialist who never gets shots and will bolt first chance he gets from a Raptors team with Mitchell. So get value for him now while we can.
another option is you keep him and trade him in the season for assets if he is truly unhappy. the thing is once you trade OG you are looking for an equivalent replacement for what he provides.

I would consider moving Fred in a Mitchell deal, not sure he fits Utah's plans, but maybe a third team would get involved and send a pick and prospect. I would try to hold on to OG.

Fred (to third team), Gary, and a first. I'm not sure if that's enough to get it done considering what NY has to offer.
like i said i'm against trading for him, but if we did this deal would be the one i find the most palatable. move precious to the starting lineup and have four 6-7 to 6-9 guys and mitchell

                • One thing I would be concerned a bit about with Mitchell is his ego and desire to be number 1. The reports are that he wants a bigger market to increase his status/star power. If he can over i think it would have to be a 1a,1b, 1c. With fred and Pascal. Mitchell would probably jump up the pecking order in crunch time cause he can create for himself. But over a course of a full game I wouldn't want him to think it his team and he's taking 30 shots if he feels like it.

                  • Perhaps something like:

To Utah: Gary Trent Jr., Bertans, 1st rounder from Toronto or maybe 2, 2 firsts from Dallas

                    To Dallas: Fred Van Vleet

                    To Toronto: Mitchell, R. Bullock

Is this enough for the Jazz, not quite sure. Dallas replaces Brunson with Fred (not sure if they would give up two firsts for Fred), and they get off of Bertans contract. Raps get Mitchell, and Bullock, I think that's fair value.

If its Fred and Trent for Mitchell, no thanks.

People value picks way too highly.

Dallas is the perfect place for Fred. He is dynamite playing off true superstars as a floor spacer. And they just lost FVV 2.0 (Jalen Brunson).
