Wiggins did play for team Canada. So has every Canadian in the NBA at some point if I'm not mistaken. So confused on the gripe here.

Are these guys going to play for Canada though? because we've been sayin this since the Wiggins draft.
If Team Canada can win at least a silver medal at the World Championships or Olympics, with whatever guys show up, then the younger NBA guys might jump on the bandwagon... like American NBA players did with Team USA. Looking at what Spain accomplished at Euro with a very young, rebuilding national team, I don't see why Team Canada can't win at least a silver medal. In terms of overall talent depth, only France and maybe Australia rival Canada in the battle for second place after Team USA.

Simmons has a max contract. Even if his value around the league was low, he was not easily gettable without having to include guys like OG, Gary or even Fred to get him. Either way Philly ended up getting Harden for him and we wouldn't have been able to compete with that.
Oh ya forgot about that silly contract, and yep hard to beat harden we would have offered boucher and a bag of chips. (If his salary was lower)
Still there was a lot of bad mouthing of simmons game, seems a bit harsh considering his talent.

Simmons with 10 assists and 8 rebounds in 28 mins, perhaps we should have tried to get him cheap.
I liked the idea but for the right price... siakam was too much and would have not gotten us closer to the idea of positionless.

          • Someone before mentioned Isaiah Joe as a possible Raptors pickup.

Would anyone do it over Champagnie?!

Raptors do like the players who play well against them at any level.

No gripe here, just disappointed. I thought he was going to play for Canada every summer.

Around that time(2014), Grange, Dougie Smith etc called that era the golden era of Canadian basketball. So my expectations was high. I thought we'd be a powerhouse. Again, no gripe here, just disappointed that we haven't come close to winning anything. Disappointed that some of the players that were billed as the "next ones" like Bennett, Stauskas, Ennis, Nicholson etc .... never panned out.

Joe is the type of player the Raptors should be targeting. Not 6'8 guys who can't shoot.

Joe is a more inconsistent 3-pt shooter than Gary Trent. Are you sure that's what you want?

Trent is obviously better than Joe. Joe is more like a spot up 3pt shooter. We need players like that.

So, if you calling Trent a One Trick Pony, what does that make Joe... a half-trick pony? Even then, he only shot 33% from 3 last year, and was hot and cold, like you rage on Trent about. I don't get why you're saying that the Raptors need a guy who does less and is worse at it, than a current guy you detest?

                        • Joe would barely see any minutes. He is an end of the bench guy at the moment.

Trent's skills is perfectly suited as a 6th man. His one trick would help this team tremendously coming off the bench. He's not a starter. My opinion about this topic isn't going to change.

As for Joe, he's a specialist. Like a Matt Thomas. I'd rather have a player like that than say Brown or Wilson. I said the same thing about Dekker last year. They kept Bonga over Dekker last year because.....I don't know...wingspan?

                            • I dont know much about this Joe guy but one summer league highlight isn't enough. We need to be thinking bigger with moves. We have enough projects and enough end-of-the-bench type guys. We need guys who can either step in to true bench roles that will get starter minutes down OR we need guys who will step into big roles and can contend with the starters. Skill wise we need more dribble penetration and you can never have enough high ball IQ and playmakers.

Joe doesn't seem to have that right now as far as I know.

One of the reasons why I originally advocated for mitchell before moving off of him was because I liked the rim penetration he provided.

When you say Brown you mean Gabe not Bruce right?

They kept Bonga over Dekker because of the perceived higher level on defence and the willingness to invest in a younger player. Bonga is 22 years old and dekker is 28.
