...if we can get him for OG,GTJ and picks as many here seem to think will happen, i'm alright with it...
I wonder how far ahead the scouting goes. Like, if the Raptors believe there is a lousy draft class next year, then a good one, then a lousy one, do they fit that into their considerations. It's a bit of a fools game trying to scope out draft classes 2 or 3 years down the line, but it could make a difference in their considerations. And I suspect they may have guys working on scoping the draft out that far ahead. They have been watching Christian since 2017 or so. And Precious was on their radar for 5 or 6 years. It is early, but at least in those two cases, they seem to have made good decisions.

          • This may become a major stare down, the Nets really don’t have to do anything fast, or at all.

This has the potential to become a major distraction for the Raps if it goes on for months. Masai has limited ability to calm the waters given what happened with Demar.

to be fair the nets can't let this linger into the actual season.

they scout these guys since they are age 14-16 ... next years draft is very good.

The Nets set themselves up for a long, protracted pre-trade negotiating period by drawing their line in the sand in regards to what they would take in return (a la the Simmons negotiation). Now that teams know that either they will need to be desperate enough to pay the full askng price, or wait for the nets to become desperate enough to compromise on either the quality of the player(s) coming back or the number of picks. The former likely won't happen until midseason, while the latter will take weeks even if Nets management isn't particularly stubborn.

And of course, even when Nets management is willing to bend on the asking price, finding a deal that will allow them to save face could take some time anyway.

Why not? They’re blowing it up anyways. Might as well destabilize a few more teams while they’re at it. Nothing to lose for the Nets at this point, other than not getting enough assets back. Kyrie and KD are the bad guys, so management can pretty much do whatever they want without any blow back.

Yeah. Kind of my point. Maybe next year's is very good, but the Raptors see themselves getting the 26th or 27th pick. Maybe giving up a FRP in 2023, 2025, and a pick swap in 2026 is no big deal in the eyes of the scouting and FO eyes. Personally, when I see a bunch of picks going out in a trade, I cringe, but I don't have the insight into the upcoming drafts and don't have a good idea of where the Raps might be picking. Maybe the smart guys believe giving up picks over the next 3-4 years isn't as important as keeping certain members of the team. They are operating at levels of understanding that I can only dream about.

All I can do is "Trust Booby and Masai."

i think its still a very very good deep draft at least how things are shaping up so far but personally if its only OG and Trent they can have 4-5 picks.

Fred is not on the untouchables list. I'd have Pascal on the list but untouchable means for any player of pkg in the league. I wouldn't trade Pascal but he's not untouchable either.
