Yeah, that's what we're hearing. But I don't think it would be a terrible negotiating tactic to leak that something is totally off the table up front, so you perhaps increase your chances of reducing pick (or player ballast) compensation, for instance, if somehow he is put back on the table as the only way a deal can get done. Clearly the Raps wanted to put it out there that Scottie is off the table... pretty much everyone's singing from the same hymn sheet at this point... Grange, Will Lou, RR, but if Masai could hands down win a trade (again) with less pick compensation in this instance, I don't think he'd be sentimental about it, or miss out if he thinks he could bring another championship to Toronto over the next 4 years. There have been numerous commentators and fans (Doug Smith, Blake Murphy, me and others : ) that have said as difficult as it would be they could stomach a Barnes for KD deal, so I don't think I need to remove it ...as a notion.

To be clear: I do not want to trade Scottie. I think my first impulse was, that's who the Nets would want, and we could win a championship with the remainder plus Durant. I would be thrilled to get a deal done for Durant that doesn't include Scottie or Pascal, I hope it happens!

You might find Phoenix too dry, during their 60 degree winters and their 80 degree falls and springs, but many people will find Toronto too cold and icy during winter and Spring (I find the cold weather pretty dry in Toronto too... if my moisturizer consumption is any guide). I guess to each his own. Toronto summers and falls are great... pretty much perfect for the baseball season, less so for a lot of people's tastes during the basketball season. Obviously it's not a deal breaker, there are tons of things about Toronto that make it a great place to play, but we have to be honest in that some players will prefer a fairer weather destination over the winter months.
I do not see Detroit or Cleveland mentioning their rookies and scottie won the ROY not even two months ago. Why would we give him up. Plus to make the money work you would look at Scottie plus likely other stuff like OG+trent.... not worth it. Then they still might ask for picks.

      • Say it’s Pascal or Scottie and one of OG or Trent and 3 to 4 picks for Durant. What’s the asking price for Shai? Or a player of similar stature.

Wouldn’t you rather lose Gary, FVV or OG and a few picks to nudge us into contention?

There’s other ways to move the needle than mortgaging the future on one 34 year old superstar.

I was thinking about that as well. I don't think we're getting KD for OG + Trent + picks. But what if we offer OG + Trent + plus multiple picks for SGA or Jamal Murray? would OKC or Denver say no?

I'd rather have SGA or Murray.

            • Its hard to trade with OKC. They have picks, they don't need more and they're already super young so they don't need young players either.

Only way to get Shai is if he requests a trade or in free agency.

Just needs a handful more games at the national level to really learn how awesome of a coach Nick is and to remember what winning games feels like... He'll be pushing to get here before we know it

I’d love to see the rest of the show to see if anyone called him out on that. Has he ever been to Boston?
                    Nobody really did. Antoine agreed.

                    • Why haven't the cavs offered Mobley, sexton and multiple 1sts and swaps? Or why hasn't the media suggested they should? Not much different than the packages they think we need to give up to get KD.

Trade wise he'll probably be cheaper than Shai.

His contract expires in 3 years, he'll be 28, perfect time to go for him.

Because Cleveland and Detroit are not a contending team even if they trade for KD.

                          • IMO, Barnes and pascal are off the table. And so is the plethora of picks. I don't see this franchise trading 3 1st's + swaps either. I think they are set on something like my first suggestion: OG + Trent + 2 1st's and 2 2nd's + maybe a swap or two. And that's plenty to give up. No need to do something absurd like Minny did. You trade for Durant to contend now, not in a year or two with other moves. The roster is ready made for contention with the addition of a superstar, but not if we give up too many players who need to be replaced to truly contend.

There's hot takes and there's stupidity. What Broussard said was pure stupidity. As for Antoine Walker, if he wants to be taken seriously as an NBA analyst then he better do some research but just like what he was as a basketball player, he's lazy, he just went with the nobody likes to play in Toronto narrative.

But are we, if we were to execute one of these hypothetical trades the amer8can media are throwing around. I believe barnes, and two of pascal, og, fred, and gary + picks is popular among them, no? Detroit I agree. But the cavs are pretty good even though they shit the bed down the stretch last season. They were being hyped in the media as a new up and coming team to watch out for most of the season. They really think we'd have to pay some asset tax to get a star here, even though, in this instance, the star has no say.
