I don't think we're that far off Miami, a team potentially in decline as currently constructed.
But the Celtics were already better than the Raptors and got a little bit better overall again this off season imo
    Fuck Boston.
    You are 100% right.
    Fuck Boston.

As is I think on a clear day, with no wind the Raps could catch fire and beat the heat and the Sixers.
As for the Alphabet and the Chowders. Not so much.
We need more without giving up everything. Everything to me is Barnes and Pascal.
Calculated gamble by the front office. Let’s see what happens next.

Going back to discussing KD and Raptors as this is the thread’s OP objective…

KD just followed Vlad Jr and Austin Matthews

      fwiw

Unfortunately that would add to my insomnia tonight. Huhuhu

Where do you see this mate?

Say it’s Pascal or Scottie and one of OG or Trent and 3 to 4 picks for Durant. What’s the asking price for Shai? Or a player of similar stature.

Wouldn’t you rather lose Gary, FVV or OG and a few picks to nudge us into contention?

There’s other ways to move the needle than mortgaging the future on one 34 year old superstar.
You do this and good luck even getting to East finals (never mind 3-4 unprotected FRPs -so much for future) for a guy that's 34 yo.
How about the job Boston did on him? You think situation will change in a year or 2??
Even if it is just Pascal & 1 FRP -I doubt we get out of East this year.
I like KD. He is still a very good player -NOT top 5. But this is not same 30 yo Durant that led GS to 2 titles

Well at the moment Scottie is a tier below Pascal and Gary is a tier below OG.

Hypothetically if its Scottie, Trent, a player to match salary and 4 picks. You have KD, Pascal, OG and Fred. Thats an instant championship contender.

How he played against Boston is an outlier until it happens more than once. That Nets team wasn't very good outside of KD and Kyrie taking turns trying to score against Boston's defense. He is a 34 year old superstar who averaged 30 PPG last season.

Losing Scottie will suck and I would avoid trading him (there are reports saying Raptors won't trade him), but if it happens, I'll live with it and be excited about a championship window for a few years. Most championship windows don't last more than a few years anyway.

          • My question is do you think if we land Durant will that make a Raptors a destination place for buy outs or just league min guys .. Usually these two type of scenarios are never a option when it comes to Toronto ?

Please don't make this trade .. I am confused .. This isn't the 2018 Raptors where we had loads of depth and we aren't in a situation where we can trade 2 or 4 for 1 . We lost tons from our championship team with no assets coming back other then Powel and Kyle ...

                • I don't think Barnes is on the table. That's why KD is still a Net. No team can top a Barnes package. Like, if you're Sean Marks and the Raptors offered Barnes, you make that deal in a heartbeat. The longer this goes, the better for the Raptors.

                  • If this is true, it looks like the asking price has went down? Would also mean more teams could now give an offer as well I guess

I could be wrong here, but I believe he's been following those guys for quite some time. He follows a lot of stars from a lot of leagues all over the world.

I've been telling all my friends. Its the media that pumps up these prices(& yes somethings are leaked out by teams) Its just not true that especially a 34 year old(declining superstar) is worth what they say.

If they want an all star, I'd part with Fred, Trent, Khem and picks. We keep OG. A starting lineup of Scottie, OG, KD, Pascal and Precious is intriguing.

If the tweet about Nets not wanting to pair Scottie with Simmons is true, do they really want to pair Simmons with Pascal? Fred would be the ideal fit for Simmons.

PG depth was not the strong point of this team to begin with. If they deal Fred, how do they deal with that?

Well KD will obviously be the main offensive initiator and he has gotten better as a playmaker. Pascal has been the main ball handler and initiator in the second half of the season and Playoffs. He has been a good playmaker as well. Scottie is a natural playmaker and has handled the ball more as the season went on. If we are truly going position less basketball, this is it.

We can probably use a backup PG, but I think the starting lineup is fine.
