yup they get largely older and worse players minus BAM unless they are super high on bam.. in which case miami would just keep him.

That trade absolutely sucks for the Nets.
But if they want two young players, getting Bam and Herro is likely beating a lot of offers. Plus who knows if Simmons can even play. That's a bad contract right now, potentially worse than Lowry's or Robinson's. At least those two will play games.

Bam plus Herro is a good return for KD. Not KD plus Simmons.
Nets would be way better off with OG plus Trent to pair with Simmons.

Yeah so you're assuming Simmons has negative value. I disagree big time.

It assumes Ben Simmons has negative value which is not the case. Because then you're trading Simmons for Lowry and Robinson which is a dogshit return. (sorry Lowry).

I'd take that Miami offer over Toronto's. I can't find a single team right now that would want Simmons and his contract. I mean Philly tried to trade him all year, and ended up sending him to Brooklyn when Harden wanted out. Plus Simmons value is even worse than it was with Philly. He was not playing all season, and then hurt his back? It's a super risky contract to trade for. I think Kyrie is easier to trade for since it's only for one season and Kyrie is far more of a nut case.
Nets aren't trying to trade Simmons. Wisely so.

If Masai was offering more than what you've outlined above, KD would probably already be a Raptor. No way he's giving up 3 of our starters plus all those picks for KD. At least not for KD alone.

I was thinking how different the NHL is to the NBA .. You don't hear Austin Mathews who maybe superstar status right now say anything about who
he wants to be signed ? He was buddy with two of the past goalies and the Leafs just made his buddies walk .

But if the Nets want someone like Bam or Mitchell the only option is to move Ben now. Otherwise their best package for KD will be a bunch of role players and in that case I could see why the Nets would prefer to just try and persuade KD to come back.
It's too much of a risk to the heat and too much of downgrade for bam. Mitchell makes no sense for the nets given that they have no picks to give up. OTHERWISE i'd say sure.

The Heat also have slightly fewer picks they can trade with a 2025 1st already traded. It's protected too, so they'd need to renegotiate to remove those protections to be able to move their other firsts.

I do agree in any case that the return from the Heat is pretty bad even in that scenario where they take Simmons. Do the Nets really want to kick off their retool (?) by trading not one but all three of their "core" for either subpar or negative return?
