The only thing that stops them from embarrassing him is trading them.

Sure, and they've made the tough decisions to trade KD/Kyrie and are going through the process. They know there will finally an end to the embarrassment.

So at this point, the more embarrassing thing would be trading them for peanuts. They've already been through 3 seasons of the KD/Kyrie clown show... waiting a few more months to the trade deadline, or even a whole season to get a good return (or Kyrie expiring to free up cap space) isn't going to faze them.

Yeah he got played there. Anytime a rumor says a player will take a 1 year $30M pay cut the rumor is obviously bullshit. If Kyrie was giving up $5-$6M sure, but not $30M.
