Or speech is only free if you're saying the 'right' things.
I thought we are all matured and supposedly smart.
Why not leave the decision to us to believe what we want to believe in.
I will do this once. Freedom of speech comes with a level of responsibility. The basic responsibility and expectation of respecting your fellow human. It isn't that complex if you think about it through that lens. I don't know why I am genuinely continuing to try to have good-faith discussions on this point, but yet here I am.
Yes, it is important. You probably shouldn't walk around your town or city or area and randomly call people racial slurs for example. You legally can but if you do... you will likely get beat up... or piss off a lot of people in a way that they no longer want to hang out with you. If you then get mad at said people because you are essentially being a disrespectful.... jerk then at that point you are being sensitive and a little... frankly dotish.
Again some of this is common sense. For example, if I went over to your house and started calling your significant other... your wife or girlfriend sweet cheeks, and was all flirty with her. You would probably be pissed off, because that would be pretty disrespectful. Unless of course, that is how you roll. If that is how you roll then cool, and noted. Most people don't roll like that. Adding to that point, if you roll like that your rules of how you engage may be different than your neighbor. Maybe your neighbor likes to have their signifcant other called sweet cheeks by others and you don't. If someone disrespects you and you say he I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't do that because it kind of seems like you are trying to do something here, and the person continues you would likely be pretty pissed off no?
Again its a respect thing. I am assuming you respect your friends and your friends have certain boundaries. Whether its a traumatic event like a divorce or something like that, the presumption is that there are certain things that you have an understanding with your friend whereby said topic or said thing is kind of respected... a sort of bro code if you will.
Again legally you can. You are protected by the law for a lot of things. This isn't necessarily about the law though this issue is about respect and social conduct which is some what common sense. If you goof up should you be ostracized.. nah but its like hey please don't do that. If you then purposefully go out of your way to then push that line... you are now trying to become a bully or simply put you are purposefully being disrespectful.
Most things are inbounds. It isn't that difficult for the vast majority of people to comprehend even those are are very pro-free speech.
I am surprised you didn't comment about the flasher Primo. That is another thing. Based on the reporting that is coming out if he did in fact flash women without any prompting then yeah that isn't freedom of speech or expression. They didn't ask for that, did they?
Lastly, to bring this full circle. I have hinted at this several times. The NBA is in general yes, a more progressive league. This isn't new although you seem to just be continuing to relearn this and be shocked and surprised by this every few months like we are in a time loop somehow. If it really bothers you that much you aren't forced to watch the NBA or any sport at all. You can feel free to turn off the television and not watch. It is at its core entirely your freedom. What is interesting though is you also didn't say anything when Ant-man was suspended, and you tend to take umbrage with racial and ethnic-related problems in sports, just an interesting observation.
Now if you want further explanation you can always go back to previous conversations ... from this thread or others or alternatively reread what I wrote above just to ensure I am writing this in a manner that perhaps helps you to understand and answers the continued question, and expressed confusion you have on this notion.

That was one hell of an expensive tweet, post or whatever he did on social media.
So they fined him 500K or "asked" him to make a 500K donation.
So in context... Lets say 24 year old Jack gets drunk at the company party kickoff whatever....runs his mouth on the way out and ultimately in a display of frat boyism spray paints a swastika on the wall in his hotel room.
Well he'd be fucked right... kicked out on his sorry ass.
Or he could get the Kyrie Irving offer.....an $800 buck fine / donation by Jack and it all goes away.
Kyrie makes 36.5$million
Jack makes 60K
The NBA is pretty thick at times. There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Do the Nets blow this up now? Irving isn’t playing there again. Simmons is injured. They just fired the coach. Durant has to be fed up.
In less than 2 years the Irving - Harden - Durant era hit the ground like a bag of wet cement.
in CLipperland the dynamic duo of Paul George and Khawai Leonard haven't made the WCF let alone win a championship... and.... its unknown that after not playing last year if Leonard will be able to play much this year....
the Lakers in the three years since the signing of Davis to pair with Lebron are on the verge of sinking out of the playoffs for the second straight year. They did one though. The asterisk bubble championsip in front of pictures taped to seats in an empty gym.... but the future looks bleak. Lebron is older now and he gets hurt. He also can't carry this bag of rocks of a team even when Streetclothes Davis dresses. They have no draft picks for a while and are capped out.

Where were the Nets ranked in the power rankings at the start of the season? If they are now easy picking for the Raptors, because they have taken dysfunction to a whole new level, I'm good with it. Are there any pieces on that team that the Raptors should target if they decide to tear it down? I mean quality Raptorsy players?

My big question ... as Vince said yesterday, Pascal is playing like a top 5 player right now. Whether he can sustain it is of course another question -- but watching the ease he's playing with right now... there's no reason for me to think. he can't.
That being the case... does Durant help alongside him? Or hinder the potentially good thing we have going.
I'm probably in the minority, I said it a few games back... I see no reason why this team can't find magic this year and even win it all. Lofty.
If you can get a Durant -- you basically do it.
But is there any chance it upsets the balance?
(Not to open this whole can of worms again... what on earth am I doing?)

Primo was waived by the Spurs last Friday, just four games into his second NBA season.
Primo, through his attorney, denied any wrongdoing and lashed out at Cauthen’s claims, saying she is “playing to ugly stereotypes and racially charged fears for her own financial benefit,” and calling it an act of betrayal against a client.
“Dr. Cauthen’s allegations are either a complete fabrication, a gross embellishment or utter fantasy,” the attorney, William J. Briggs II, said. “Josh Primo never intentionally exposed himself to her or anyone else and was not even aware that his private parts were visible outside of his workout shorts.”

So now that she's suing, both Primo and the Spurs are denying the incident(s) as entirely factual

I think the Spurs are denying what Primo's attorney is saying, not what the the psychologist is saying.
She is saying that she reported the incident(s) and meeting was delayed for weeks, nothing was done. Her lawyer is obviously arguing that the Spurs are complicit in this, most likely and specifically the timeline. Spurs are disagreeing with her version of events.
Spurs CEO R.C. Buford said the franchise disagrees “with the accuracy of facts, details and timeline presented today."
“While we would like to share more information, we will allow the legal process to play out," Buford said, adding that the Spurs remain “committed to upholding the highest standards and will continue to live by our values and culture.”
