Right now we need to do something I'd trade for Turner and then ship fvv off to dallas for picks.... what ever you do don't give up 2023 draft assets

Walker I believe is a drop big (don't watch Utah much). And we like being able to switch and having the center go out to the perimeter if possible. Koloko had that in his bag. I'm not sure if Kessler did/does. So likely a moot point.
It's like drafting Flynn over Bane. You win some, you lose some.
Thad is still a guy you can move in a trade to a contender and get an asset back. He's basically a rental if you want (has a team option next season). So the Lowry trade has not reached its final form yet.

Fair enough.
The point of the entire post was that we aren't competing with the top 4, plus teams like the Cavs are improving as a threat and you can't even count out the traitional bottom feeders any longer.
If Pascal, FVV and OG have relatively hit their peaks, there's a lot riding on Scottie and to a lesser degree, Achiuwa to make strides sooner than later. Celtics and Bucks are going to be very good for years and the Nets could be....
No evidence to back it up but when a team has glaring holes which they do not address I would suspect there is a plan in place. Maybe they are targeting some one.

The thing that bothers me about thad is it seems like with his good leadership and experience its a good pick up if we’re contending. We’re trying to grow though would have rather had some more youth at this juncture. Seems mgmt tried being a little too fancy with this swap for koloko. If they were so high on him they cudda kept their first and traded future second somehow for koloko if they think he’s actually first round quality
Yes we have 2 glaring holes in the starting lineup and not much chips on the bench to use to fill those holes. In a predicament. This is why some have been suggesting sell high with fred for awhile so we have more youth on the bench at this point instead of a player who at this point is a hobbling rental

Hard to say if Orlando has a bright future with that group or not. Suggs barely plays and has a slow start. Wagner and Bonchero look good early but players tend to do that on rebuilding teams cause they get free reign to do whatever they want.

They are hell-bent in making the small-ball / positionless lineups work and don’t want to give the players a crutch.
Doug Smith asked Nurse about the center size problem it night and he said he believed you could do things with schemes and double teaming to offset the size advantage that have worked well in the past, but requires effort and communication. Nurse was mostly pissed off about the effort. And he said there are advantages the Raptors have with their length and quickness that Nurse feels they should be exploiting better.
They don’t want a drop big… they are all in on small-ball & positionless, hell or high water. They truly believe in this.

It’s pretty obvious they (Nurse, Bobby and Masai) don’t want a traditional drop big. We could have Hassan Whiteside right now… he put up great numbers in limited minutes last year. WS/48 > .200, PER > 22, etc…, etc…

We draft length and players from Africa if they're available, that's our MO, rim protection, shooters and intensity be damned.

We also had a lot of interest in Gobert but his price was too high obviously.
They have had interest in a big.. but they also have a price tag they don't want to pay. And that's likely a first round pick. And I'm glad they did that even if it backfired this year. I would hate to trade picks away from our scouts. But I would for the right player and I'm sure Masai would as well.
Of course the 2023 draft pick has basically been priced out. We're on the cusp of getting another great draft pick. And using protections hurts the Raptors in the future as they may not be able to trade future picks because of it. The wording would have to be perfect.

whiteside sucks... you can do positionless with a center which is basically what the celtics do...as you said they can OFF SET the advantage they are giving other teams but it doesn't solve. nurse may be correct but it wont be happening with this squad
Again, I’m not saying get Whiteside… I’m pointing out that traditional, rim protecting centers are always available for cheap. Every fan seems to be clamoring for that (hello: William Lou). But Raps just don’t want to get one. Heck, Biz got picked up last year by the Suns and he had a bounce back year. He can switch at least as well as Horford, who people seem to forget is only…. 6’9”.
Raptors have a big laundry list of what they want from a center… otherwise they will just roll with what they have. Basically they want a taller version of Precious, who can hit 3s, finish above the rim, protect the paint, switch onto PGs and guard Embiid.
Would be really interesting to know what they are prioritizing when they evaluate trade targets and FA centers. Jakob does not tick most of the boxes.

Whiteside absolutely did not suck last year. He was stellar: +10.1 on court net rating and a +5.7 on/off, which is extra impressive considering he backs up Gobert.

he sucks on defence and still has weird defensive metrics. Not a fan.I think we gotta stop doing these half measures. Either get your guy now or look towards the draft.

Nurse, Bobby and Masai don’t look at it like half measures. They want to be the first to make full-blown positionless basketball work. They will run this experiment until the end, and that means no moves until Precious gets back and is in rhythm. That’s the evaluation that’s going to happen next. Sorry impatient Raptor fans.
