For next season yes.. My napkin math had us get the 10th pick this year. But I didn't take into account filling the empty roster spots. The problem is over time it can get worse because of OG and Pascal's extensions. But by the then we could have a cap spike too. So it could even out.

DanH could do a way better job estimating our cap situation if we brought our entire core next year.

Today's trade candidates are GTJ and Fred, and/or OG if the FO is blown away by an offer. Sounds like Memphis is getting desperate, and the Pels have been very quiet the past couple of days. But one or both of Gary and Fred are on the block for a potential exit today for sure.

Does the draft pick compensation for Jakob look better now?

Muscala is a pretty good player.

But, remember part of that draft comp for Jak was to dump Birch's contract on to them. Birch's deal runs all through next year as well as the rest of this year.

He's not an expiring. So we had to pay more for the Spurs to absorb his deal.

Yeah true.. I just don't see us being this bad/mediocre again for awhile.. so would have been a good pick to keep. But we gave up our 2024 second rounder already and the Spurs wanted 2 second rounders. So it is what it is.

Our 2nd round picks almost never work out unless they're right at the top of the 2nd round. Banton and David Johnson were middle 2nd round picks. Prior to Koloko, Norm was the last 2nd round pick we had that worked out well.

Teams also trade 2nds like it's nothing. Freaking Muscala was traded for two 2nds. I think we can get more 2nds if we really want them.

I don't know if anyone will pony up what the FO wants for OG. But again, Memphis seems desperate, so maybe... I think Fred is gone, and likely Gary, but maybe they decide to re-sign him. Could be wrong on Fred, too, the FO might be still super invested in him.

Someone gotta go, though. Part of me, as much as I love OG, hopes it's him because of the potential return. 3 firsts and Bane as a centrepiece (redundant with OG) + cap filler?

People get way too worked up about second round picks. Even smart guys in Raptorland place way too much value on them.
