  • So now we might have to unload someone like boucher just to have space financially? Thats like 9/6 off poetls numbers. I know poetl is a more sound C but not worth all that

they should have just started boucher hed get similar numbers but is able to shoot the three and fts better lessneffective but worth saving 3 picks and 20 million

And to think if the Raptors kept their first round pick instead of trading it for Thad a year ago & picked Walker Kessler, the costly trade for Poeltl wouldn't need to happen.

I've never liked trading first rounders especially for aging veterans roleplayers & that move was costly.
I really hate these kind of "what ifs".

What if we had drafted the guy who is way overperforming his draft position that 20 other teams missed out on. No one thought Kessler would be this good.

We never even brought Kessler in for a workout, he wasn't gonna be the pick had we not made the trade down. Much more likely it still would have been Koloko.

If they trade Fred for Luke Kennard with no first and no Terrance Mann we know the ceiling of that return (not high) on a flipside carrying Fred to offseason brings out more potential outcomes. You could resign Fred for acceptable price. You could sign and trade. Fred could raise his value in these next 26 games. So it's a gamble to wait but otherwise it's no potential shitty return.

Jakob fits Scottie's timeline just fine. We resign him for 4 years this offseason. We have him for age 28, 29, 30, and 31 seasons. So quite literally his entire prime.

Now we're set at center and Scottie will never need to play center again. Offensively he will work great with Scottie in the pick and roll. He's an excellent finisher and has range out to 16ft (I expect we'll try and extend that to the 3pt line).

It's clearly a forward looking move. Center is set for the remainder of this season and the 4 seasons following. By the way, Gasol was 34 when the Raptors added him and was still great at age 35. No reason we couldn't sign Poeltl for another 4 years after the 4 year deal ends and have center position handled for the next 8 years.
I'm not as positive about this trade or signing Jakob for the next 8 years. I think we need to do a lot better than Jakob if we're talking about being a contender. He's already reached his ceiling. Comparing Gasol to Peoltl, really? I'd take a 34 year old Gasol.over a 27 year old Poeltl any day. There's levels to this as they say.

Sure he's not Gasol defensively, but remember what we gave up for Gasol? Hell of a lot more than a protected first and the corpse of Khem Birch.

Poeltl absolutely solves the center position and does a lot of what Gasol did.

It means that the Raptors didn't do their due diligence & are now paying for it.

You cant really say ignore kessler coz they were high on koloko in the second then then not even mention the two seconds we gave along with the first

So did every other team that didn't draft Kessler. That's why I hate those kind of what ifs. Could do it every season for every team in the draft.

Those 2nds will be late 2nds, the kind that get you David Johnson.

                          • Masai said he thinks every guy individually is impressive, and other teams showed a lot of interest in many of their players, so maybe they thought Poeltl could helps with the chemistry and get this team to the level they should be playing at collectively. As SkywalkerAC said this could be the spark, the turning point.

My guess is that they were offered from long term contracts in the trade discussions today and they were unsure if that's the direction the team wanted to go in mid-season. The off-season they can pivot and dissect their roadmap with out the pressure of the deadline looming.

                            • Perhaps initially they didn't want to give first for Poeltl but after playing it out this far they realized that they can't solve this issue. Poeltl is bigger, better passer more efficient with his possessions than Precious. Poeltl is better offensive player than Koloko by a mile. I mean I think it's fine if they backtrack. Stubbornness is not good in this business.

I bet Pascal doesn't foul out again the rest of the season.

The thing I'm most annoyed with is we should have traded for Poeltl 2 years ago, but alls well that ends well.
