Yea but what can Dallas offer us that makes a fred trade worth while? Could be a good landing spot but they don't really have any promising young guys or a future of high draft picks

Multiple picks and expiring contracts I'd imagine. I don't think Dallas is our trading partner if we want to get better immediately.

Their 2023 pick goes to NY this year. They can't trade 2024 because of it.. so the earliest is 2025. Do they have any decent prospects?

Yea but not so sure I want Dallas picks. They have a generational player. So barring Luka wanting out they picks are going to be in the 20-30 range for a long time. Rather trade with a team who 1st rounders are going to be more valuable

              • If there's a bidding war Dallas is not going to outbid anybody. They are stuck at the moment

They have Jaden Hardey who fell way down in the draft and hasn't really shown much yet, so I would say no decent prospects. Dallas has been slow to build around Luka so that 2025 pick might be good if he gets fed up and demands a trade. It may also be bad like what Berta is saying if 2025 is enough time for Dallas to build a team around Luka.

                  • Orlando is the best bet to get a decent prospect/pick. They have Weltman who used to work under Masai so he would know all about Fred and what he can do. They have cap space to sign him outright, but if they want his bird rights this could be the ideal team.

                    • New Orleans has some unprotected lakers picks to trade. And they are a very good team likely looking for another piece. I wonder if they are shopping those lakers picks

They've got enough talent (when healthy) to make a serious playoff run. They could be more interested in contending now than developing young players.

I could be wrong, but I thought Bird Rights are only an advantage when you're going to offer a max salary for 5 years, with higher raises. I doubt Orlando loves Fred that much to make him a $40M+ per year player on their cap for 5 years. They have no urgency to do anything this year, except lose and also root and for the Bulls to get the #5 overall pick. I could see a disappointing sign & trade this off-season, though, if they're the only bidder that gives Fred what he wants.

They still have to do quite a bit to get under the cap and getting Fred at a competitive value. Like waiving Bamba and maybe Fultz. If they want to keep Fultz then they may prefer a trade so that they get an exception like the full MLE to get something else as well.

But yeah, if they waive Fultz and Bamba.. then they can sign him outright. Don't even need a S&T.

If they're bringing in Fred, do they need Fultz? They also have Suggs and Anthony (he can be waived too though).
