They obviously like the player, just because they’re upgrading, there’s no reason to lose a player you like for nothing

Don’t think they’re high on Bamba so he’d be gone regardless but it’s just so much easier to operate over the cap than it is to clear the space for a Fred contract

Ross (Salary filler expiring)
Cole Anthony (disgruntled guard who wants out)
Houstan (Prospect who can shoot the 3)
2 first round picks (Magic have 2 this year, one next year, and 2 in 2025)

Being realistic we get the worse of their pick this year and the 2024 pick with protection.

Magic don't lose any players they need and they add a championship vet to lead the team to the next level. They desperately need guard help. They can easily afford to pay Fred in the off-season. Fred can get them into the play in this year, and playoffs next year.

Makes a ton of sense for both teams.

We can start Cole for the rest of the season to see if he fits.

You gotta get the young star before he really breaks out…. like OKC with Shai, Indy with Hali and Rockets with Harden. It could be a talented young guy who is playing behind an established star and has only shown flashes of star potential.
