Interesting to read which of our players other fanbases & media are hoping they bring in. From Mavs newspaper site:

Someone's gonna cough up a 1st for Trent. Just a matter of who.

      Not a rental, duh!

We make the trade with the plan to resign Poeltl long term in the off-season, the 4 year $80M deal his agent wants. We're capped out so only way we get Poeltl is via trade.
Some iteration of Gary for Jakob straight up, should be a fair deal. Especially since Gary is younger and has a skill that is in higher demand in the NBA.

And if Jakob truly wants to come back home, then we'd have more leverage in an off-season S&T, if we're one of the only teams he's willing to sign with. Spurs lose leverage once his contract expires. And I would bet there would be a lot less teams to bid against in the summer, after the draft.

It's not like we need to get him in early to sell him on our culture. Plus, it could hurt the tank and make us truly mediocre.

Indication of what a Boucher deal could look like?
Hachimura is probably viewed as a player with untapped potential and is younger, but yeah should give an idea of what the return on a Boucher trade would look like.

How about if a team with cap space just signs Poeltl in the off-season for 4 years $80M he wants? What do we do then?

He's not restricted, and lots of teams will have $20M in cap space or could easily get there. We are not one of those teams though.

No player is ever gonna say I will only sign with Toronto. So that's a non factor. The only way we can sign Poeltl is via a trade with the Spurs. Of you think the asking price will be less in the off season that's a gamble you could make, but I don't think it will be, and he'll have a lot of suitors. If we really want Poeltl to be a long term member of the Raptors moving forward we should trade for him now.

I'm not super passionate about getting Poeltl, just laying out the reality of how we could get him if that's what management wants.

Also Spurs don't want Gary they want picks, hence the 3rd team providing a pick for Gary.

3 seconds for Hachimura so maybe we could get two 2nds for Boucher.

            • GTJr for Fournier, 2023 1st Dallas, 2023 1st Detroit. The Detroit pick is heavily protected and not likely to be conveyed until 2025 or later, and would be late lottery at best.

This is a rebuild trade. Not likely what the Raptors want if they still believe in the core and are looking to add players that nurse will use.

Yeah, basically the Matt Thomas and Terrence Davis trade in one.

                • Why trade boucher? Hes an effective bench player on an anemic bench. Scored 14 of 18 bench points last night and seems to accept home friendly deals - 11m is very fair for him. Chances are neither second rounders will pan out as well as he has

it would have been a great trade last year.

at this point of this season i'd rather shut down vets while giving development reps to the youngins' and play the lottery machine again.
Poeltl feels like a win now move that a contender (or potential contender) makes to shore up a legit weakness. I also don't really understand the long term fit unless they are moving away from the current philosophy, strategy and tactics.

                    • What's the situation with Thad? We're looking like we might miss the playoffs entirely, and well he's just another year older next season. Is he a trade candidate or does he have no value to a playoff team anymore?

Filler on a bigger deal? He's out of the rotation on a 21-27 team that is desperately in need of depth, so, yeah...

Yeah not sure why we would do it, but that's a theoretical return.

Boucher is also under contract whereas Hachimura is up for a new deal this off-season.

Maybe a deal similar to what we did last season. Get a late 1st for Thad and our high 2nd.
