TRex wrote: View PostThey take way too many threes. Pull up threes, off the dribble, contested threes. Just bad shots. The other night vs Bucks they took 27 threes, made 7 of them. Last week vs Wizards i think(can't remember) they took 34 threes. Tonight vs Brooklyn they took 32 threes only made 10. That's a lot of threes a gam. Something needs to change.
If they're not taking threes, they're taking tough contested 2's, fadeaway, turnaround whatever. Lowry, DeRozan and AGAIN Lou Williams are the main culprit here.
Lowry's decision making(passing and shooting)since being named an all-star has been brutal. What's up with the long 2 fadeaway shot and the the long pull up 3's? also, what's up with the homerun passes?? because he's an all star he can now do whatever he wants?
DeRozan SHOULD operate more in the post.
Lou Williams needs to fucking calm down with the off the dribble 3 crap.

This is taking posts away from #firecasey because that is essentially what is being discussed here. One can point at the players and show disgust or be genuine and point out the self proclaimed mastermind behind the offence.
Believe you me, nothing will change unless we go on a huge streak of losses.
I do have some resentment for kyle Lowry and the way he's been playing is not all star, it's more like trash. DD just being demar, what's new? He's good vs bad defensive teams and gets shut down vs good teams.
Lou Williams is great, he's only doing what he's asked of and one can not expect to much from him, he's not an all star, great bench player who can make plays for himself.
Remember the games when DD was injured , how they would go to JV in the first for those post ups? Remember how successful he was? Looks like they forgot about that amazing high percentage play that could be utilized in all 4 quarters.

Don't like the 3?
First 2 years under Casey, Raptors were average/below average in attempting 3's.
Nurse arrived last year and we took 250 more 3's than the year before - 11th in the league in attempts.
This year, we're 9th in attempts.
How much is Casey, how much Nurse, how much personnel - no clue.
Lack of passing?
This is Kyle's 9th year in the league.
The first 6 years, he had an AST % over 30 once, working with multiple coaches.
His 3 years here - 34.6, 34.7, 34.7, the 3 highest of his career.
Compare that to Chris Paul who has never had an AST% as low as Kyle's best, been over 40% 9 of his 10 years and over 50% twice. If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

magoon wrote: View PostIt's worth pointing out here that at 34.7%, Kyle's AST% is solidly in the top quarter of guards in this league. Point guards who have lower AST% than Kyle: Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard, Tony Parker, Mike Conley, Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, even Jose Calderon. If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

1, it's not an offence it's a bunch of guards trying to get theirs.
2, bigs get pulled for mistakes but guards don't (I know I'm hating on guards but I like DD Lowry(pre #nbaballot) and Ross a lot, but it's largely the guards fault.)
3, long 2's and contested 3's mean not only lower chances of going in, but also long rebounds we can't gather and transition points for opponents.
4, Lowry become obsessed with lobs down the floor for whatever reason.
5, everyone knows what's coming.
6, we run stupid crazy help everywhere defence and players are all to tired to be effective on offence.
7, we don't adjust to the teams we're playing, ever. do they have a weak centre and strong long guard? give the ball to DD and let him ruin his shooting percentage.
8, I know I said we don't adjust but we actually to, just the wrong way we let opponents dictate the game and match it.
9, when we're up big we dribble the clock down and shoot long 3's that miss until opponents catch up,
10, when we're down big we shoot long 3's that miss early in the shot clock until opponents run away with it.
that's all I can think of now, I want to go back to horns, ice pnr's, more off ball screens, more passing more open shots, you know proffesional basketball stuff.

lowry's a good passer but doesn't seem very adaptive he seems to make up his mind on what he's doing then nothing will change it

The talent is definately there. JV should be putting up 15-10 a game easily.
I dont mind good mid-range jumpshots. Open jumpshots off pindowns, a lot of space, etc.
But not turnaround long 2s, off the dribble, praying for some magic
