  • The importance of coaching (or not)

Somehow this has taken over every thread. Yes, it is the offseason (for us) but there is still plenty of other stuff to talk about. Feel free to use this.
I'll start. Phil Jackson was a terrible coach. Have fun

Of course it’s important. If it wasn’t theyd give every coach a 250k flat rate salary. This is big money the gm’s are the best in the world at what they do including finding coaches that will make a big difference to the team

Becky Hammon with the Aces is an example of a coach who seems very very good.

She took a roster that had been a strong team and turned them into the best team in the league by a mile.

Will the Aces be the first team to go undefeated in the WNBA this year??? Nothing's looked too close so far.

In any case, for anyone who follows the WNBA, how do you explain the Aces improvement as soon as incompetent coach Bill Laimbeer FINALLY retired and was replaced with someone who is considered to be quite good as a coach??

NBA coaches are push overs and have no power. Euro coaches are also tyrants but when they come to NBA that shit doesn't fly

Hard to compare the NBA with the WNBA where it's possible that Hammon was making more than every player on her team. Besides a quick lookup and I see the Aces had a better winning percentage under Laimbeer in the 2 years before Hammon got there, including getting to the WNBA finals.

Was the competition easier, harder? I don't follow that sport that well. But it's really apples to oranges. I have admitted that coaching matters in other leagues. But not as much in the NBA. As coaches don't make enough to be as powerful as you'd hope they would be. The stars run the league. Coach's are like most mid level players. They are on the team and can help win games, but ultimately aren't the main driving force behind wins/losses and ultimately championships.

Spo is the antithesis of Nurse.
Nick clamps down on the other team's lead dog,
                    Spo does the opposite.

I see this thread and it was exactly what I was thinking about . It seems the Celtics and Bucks are going all in but
both are going with unproven coaches . The 76ers didn't make any major changes but they added a coach who
around the league thing is a brilliant coach and he has a ring .

phil jackson being a bad coach is that a serious comment?

the way phil jackson and my favourite coach of all time larry brown coach is they do their coaching in practice. its not just memorize the set. you have to understand the concept of why and where your options are. the player and coach have to be of one mind.

if you watch the fred pascal era of the raps after the championship we did not set screens very well if at all. i dont understand why this generation is so bad at screen setting i look at those as assists.

I do think a team takes on the personality of two people .. The franchise player and the coach .. The coach has to get the buy
in from the franchise player and the franchise player has get the buy in from the core ... We had what the industry said one of
the best coaches last year and the result was a 500 team ..

I look at the Rockets .. They have taken on the personality of the coach and to start the season the leader was Fred and
he and the coach have developed an amazing culture ..

                            Rockets had a vision.
They brought in a tough minded coach and players that complement him, like Brooks.
Masai on the other hand is the opposite, woke and soft AF.

Who's the grit and sweat guy on the Raptors, the guy everyone hates to play against? The guy who says "I don't care how many of my boys are out, you're not punking my team unless you go through me and I'll hard foul the sh*t out of you....

                              They don't have one.
