I don't hold Masai accountable to bringing Casey back. It does matter that he had no choice. Let's not forget that the Raptors hadn't made the playoffs since 2007-08, and had just had their highest win total in team history. Fan excitement was at levels not seen since the Vince carter days. Despite how obviously flawed Casey was, we couldn't not bring him back. The closest thing he could do to replacing Casey right then was to sign him to a very short term deal. He signed him to a 2 year deal with a team option for the 3rd year. Had he given him a Brad Stevens 6 year contract, then yes, that would be his coach. As it was, Masai did the best he could. Now, if Masai doesn't replace Casey this offseason, when there is infinitely less pressure to keep him around, then I'd say that Casey is his coach, and it'd be the first real mistake Masai has made with the Raptors.
well then was Calderon still considered Babcock's when BC extended him then?

Did BC extend him because he had no choice, or because he wanted to extend him? It was obviously the latter. Not comparable to Casey coming off last seasons success.

Yep Calderon was still Babcock's, at least partially. But no one likes to acknowledge this, cause no one likes to acknowledge that Babcock could've done anything right

had no choice, at the time, everyone was saying that re-signing Calderon was a must.

Why were people saying it was a must? It was because Calderon was playing really well and letting him go would have been stupid. If Casey had won a championship last year we'd bring him back because he was a championship level coach, instead we brought him back due to fan/media pressure after a long dismal playoff drought. The only comparable situation that actually involves a player is Kobe in LA. The Lakers would have probably been much better off letting Kobe sign somewhere else instead of giving him the monster deal he's on now, but fan/media pressure made that an impossibility. The Calderon situation just isn't close, there wasn't a good reason to not re-sign Calderon. There were plenty of reasons to not re-sign Casey, they just didn't outweigh the pressure to bring him back, at least for another season.

The needed to resign Lowry. Lose Lowry and getting a new HC is harder. Also half the league was looking for a HC last summer.

you just contradicted what you said "Did BC extend him because he had no choice, or because he wanted to extend him? It was obviously the latter. Not comparable to Casey coming off last seasons success."

What happens if we go 0-3 on this upcoming road trip? Things could get ugly fast.

Maybe then it will get Casey and Ujiri fired.
