LOL, funny but not a fair comment to make when discussing what Casey has been able to to for the Raptors defense.
Raptors defend hs been about league average every year with Casey. Never really good. Its about what non-defensive coaches achieve with worse roster in their first year. Around 105-106

With Amir, it's not injury worries, it's that he's literally limping around, you can see he's in pain with your eyes, you don't need an MRI or a specialist to tell you. If I see a kid limping around on the court, I take him out of the game and don't let him play until he can walk normal. Playing hurt like that puts a lot of stress and loads on other parts of your body, and causes injuries there too, it's a domino effect. If Amir was playing only 15 minutes per game the whole year he probably wouldn't be limping around and dumping his feet in an ice bath immediately post game. The guy is too tough for his own good, and Casey isn't protecting him from himself. It's especially confusing when we have Patterson, JJ, and Hansbrough who can all play meaningful minutes at PF to give Amir his needed rest. Even 5 minutes per game from Hayes or Steamer could further alleviate Amir's minutes. Casey seems like one of those "rub some dirt on it" guys, and that doesn't work in real life.
You have to think it's the team doctors who are making the ultimate decision on how much Amir can play. If they say he's good to go, it's not Casey's responsibility or expertise to say, "actually, no."
That is a normal collar. Move on, find a new slant.

Casey has eyeballs and he decides the minutes. I'd guess the doctors are telling Casey that Amir is hurt but could play through the pain, and Casey's decision is to let him play through the pain. Whether that's the best thing for Amir or the team is up for debate, but it's definitely not the doctors decision how many minutes Amir plays. I liken it to how the doctors told Shannahan that RGIII was hurt but he technically could play, so Shannahan played him. RGIII went on to really injure himself and his career was basically ruined. The coach has to protect the player sometimes.

Key words bolded. You don't actually know anything about the situation, and neither do I. And no coach in any league is going to be like "Doctors say you're good, but I'm going to sit you for your health." That's holding Casey to unrealistic standards.

Amir "can" play, but "should" be sat for his health. Just because he's limping around doesn't mean he can't play, but it does mean he should be rested instead. Coaches sit players all the time even though the doctors say they're technically good. Rose sat out for a whole damn season after the doctors said he was fine for full contact practice.

Well from worst to average is improvement, and we have been as high as top 7 last year (maybe higher) which isn't average.

They finished at 10 or 11. Being 7th at some point in the season is meaningless. Also, Raptors offense and defense was really clicking before the new players learned the "system".

I agree with you that Casey has made strides with this team's Defence (7th, 10th - it's all an improvement) but I am concerned with the lack of consistency with the D. A really good defensive coach usually means consistent D (everyone can have a bad game or two stretch, but we are well past that).

I also don't like the scheme. Help heavy defences are nearly impossible to sustain over a 24 second shot clock. With good ball movement and spacing, there will always be a breakdown eventually, often leading to either a wide open 3 or a shot at the rim. This is just a philosophical difference I have with Casey.

You realize that is above average right? And also, you have to take into consideration those results are with players that are not of defensive mind. He was getting results with Bargs and Calderon on the floor back in the day, LOL.

                        DRTGs under Casey

                        2011-12 - 14th
                        2012-13 - 22nd
                        2013-14 - 10th
                        2014-15 - currently 17th

Basically average. No sustained success on the defensive end.

Getting guys to play D is admirable. It's obviously better than finishing 30th like under Triano. However getting any group of guys to commit will usually launch a team out of the defensive gutter and into averageness.

You hire Thibs immediately if he becomes available. He's a no doubt upgrade over Casey. Almost every other coaching option will have some doubt attached as to whether they'll improve the team. Thibs would also immediately get respect from the players due to his proven coaching success. Not to mention he'd get the fan base more hyped than just about any other option (I guarantee more raps fans know who Thibs is than who Nurse is).

Also, RE: Thibs running players into the ground. Butler is playing nearly the same minutes Derozan did last year. So Casey does the same damn thing. Casey also plays Amir heavy minutes when he's visibily limping up and down the court (thats the definition of running a player into the ground). Therefore, it can't be used as an argument to keep Casey instead.
In agreement. Thibs is vulnerable in Chicago right now and under the right circumstances may be come available in May.

It's been rumoured for over a year that things aren't smooth with management. I'm sure there is a certain amount of truth at this point.

If Thibs leaves Chicago, what I would love to see is JVG as coach and Thibs back as his assistant. Not likely, but a guy could dream
