Draft Prospects (See Pg.7: Early Entries Announced!)

There’s no question the team would like a center so that, if Bosh leaves, head coach Jay Triano can move Andrea Bargnani to his more natural position at the four. However, the Raptors believe that they’ll get a big in any sign-and-trade for Bosh, so team need isn’t limiting their options in the draft right now.

The team is also in a critical point in workouts. They had in Daniel Orton, Ekpe Udoh and Cole Aldrich in last week for workouts and will have in Hassan Whiteside and Solomon Alabi in early this week.

Later this week the Raptors will look at potential replacements for all both positions. They’ll have Eric Bledsoe, Paul George and Xavier Henry in for a workouts. All three players are in the mix at 13. Avery Bradley was also scheduled to be in the workout but an ankle sprain forced him to cancel the workout. Sources say Bradley may be the Raptors pick at No. 13 if none of the Top 10 players in the draft slip.

Draft Express Now Has Advanced Stats On Draft Prospects

Good stuff

Luke Babbitt rated #1 in +/-. including an astounding -18 in team points allowed when on court vs off court. Minus on defense is good because it means that your team is giving up fewer points when you are on the court than when you are off. He is one hell of a defender or his backups really stunk. Probably a bit of both

Aldrich rated #6 in on court defense points allowed vs off court with Larry Sanders was just ahead of him.

Udoh was #6 in overall plus minus with a stronger showing on offense than defense though he did show a minus on defense.



By the way Bradley ranked dead last in plus/minus with a minus 8.7 No doubt his bad play negatively affected James who had a plus/minus of only plus 3.0

Here are the numbers. You can even compare players which is kind of neat.

I compared Aldrich with Artsiom Parakhouski and there numbers were fairly close except in scoring and totals per game since AP played more minutes per game.

Note that not all the stats seem to be available for all the players. For example there is no plus/minus for AP.

More Damion James Observations #1

Maybe it's the beard, maybe it's the game, but it's hard to watch Thomas Gipson without picturing Damion James.

Gipson describes his game like this: "Very physical in the paint, hard-nosed, dominant." Sounds about right.

James showed a lot of positive signs that he could adapt to the small forward position as a senior. His shot improved and he remains an aggressive and instinctive rebounder. He's not a playmaker, but he holds his own on offense due to an ability to score both inside and out.

ESPN draft analyst Chad Ford came out with his mock NBA Draft list today. He has former Texas forward Damion James going at No. 20 to the San Antonio Spurs and guard Avery Bradley going at No. 25 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

In Ford’s analysis of James, a 6-foot-8, 224-pound small forward, he said, “James might be one of the more underrated players in this year’s draft. Very few players have his combination of athleticism and motor. He doesn’t have a position on offense, but he’s a Spurs type of player all the way.”

Geez, if James is good enough for Pop at #20 rather than Bradley...........

I say trade Bosh for nets third pick(to select Cousins), Lee, T.W, and anything else to match it up.

The Nets aren't going to give up the third pick to sign Bosh. Not when they don't have to give anything up for him. And they don't have to match salaries.

What i think they should is try and trade up and get Demarcus Cousins. A big man that actually plays center, and build around a core of Demar, Sonny, Bargnani, and Demarcus. And during free agency sign and trade bosh for some young prospect and a good point (my first pick would be Nets if they get john wall we could trade for Harris and CDR since they dont play him enough)

They would only be on the hook for one season and an expiring contract is marketable for some other trade down the line... Say the 2011 trade deadline?

With all those bigmen in this class and the Raptors potentially losing Bosh, I would be shocked if they passed on guys like Whiteside and Orton or one of the bigger names should one drop. I can't view that page at work, is it a player ranking or a real deal mock draft?

Chad Ford's Latest

He has the Raptors picking Bledsoe. Of course it is still very early. So watch for changes. I have found his mock draft especially his last one before the real draft as accurate if not more so than all the others.

If the Raptors do draft Bledsoe than most likely Calderon or Jack are Raptors history by this coming Nov.

Out of all the picks listed in the poll above, I'd take Ed Davis, but I don't think he'd be there when we do select. He's got a good motor, he's a very good rebounder and his wingspan is nice. His offensive game is coming along nicely as well.
Secondly I would be more tempted to choose a guy like Xavier Henry. For a guy who's 18, he's got a pretty decent NBA body. He just has to tighten up his handles and he'll be alright. Bledsoe would be a close third. I think a name like Daniel Orton should be up there as well. He's a project - but what big man on that list isn't?, but he could be a Kendrick Perkins type.
