  • Scottie Barnes' Era is Here!

Hey let's get this thing going. Forum has been shitty last couple weeks/months, but new season is here and we probably have our new #1 guy, so long awaited, Mr. Scottie Barnes!!!

Some things are there to be happy about despite the fact that this season will probably be full of ups and downs. Schroder has not been bad at all neither after these couple first games overall and Gradey's shown a couple flashes already. BUT this thread is about Scottie's road to stardom!

Stardom is never guaranteed, but Scottie Barnes has his eyes fixed on it.

Let’s cut to the chase. This isn’t a metaphorical exploration of Fred VanVleet’s prescient ability. No beautiful prose. I watched and charted every single shot, assist, and turnover from Barnes this season (nearly 600 possessions) in an attempt to identify if he was meeting some of the hallmarks of stardom and to highlight the unique ways in which he succeeds. The short version? Barnes is well on his way to becoming a completely novel superstar.

Barnes and Schröder are the only good thing they have going. Schröder EASILY is the second best player on this team.

        Barnes looks like a star.

The only thing to look forward to these days as a Raptors fan is watching Barnes play. Other than that, maybe the draft? oh wait, the genius traded their first next year for POELTL.

So, great start to Scottie's season. Really taking that 3rd year leap which most people talk about as the point when you start to get an idea of what a player is capable of. Points are up, FG's are up, 3pt %, Rebs, Ast rate are all up. I'm super excited about Scottie potentially turning into a star in this league.

I can't help but wonder though if the team needs to ride Scottie a bit harder though. And what I mean is make him a more pivotal part and hub for the offense. He's touching the ball plenty and up to about 16 FG's a game. Can the offense run through him more and can we raise his FG's and usage higher? That's the avenue to being a superstar in this league right (high usage)? For most not named Jokic anyways. Would moving Schroder to the bench and making Scottie the singular player to handle the point guard duties on the floor the easiest and best way to do this or do you guys think Scottie maybe isn't ready for that? He's just been so good so far that I was thinking he can take on more responsibility.

Definitely looking like a superstar, and one that can shoot the 3-ball reasonably well - as I predicted!

Enough with the Dennis to bench nonsense. That would be WAY worse for Scottie. He would not get more shots as the PG he would get less. Scottie is getting great looks down low because he's playing PF. He's getting great looks from 3 because Dennis is setting him up. Watch where Dennis plays, it sure as shit isn't down low he's always out beyond the 3pt line.

Scottie will never be ready to play PG because he's a PF not a PG. Tatum didn't raise his scoring by switching to PG he kept playing PF and just took more shots. That's all Scottie needs to do too. Take 2 more shots per game and he's matching Tatum in his 3rd year.

Schroder has been great. He deserves to start for sure. He is a true PG too, doesn't try to do too much shooting wise and knows how to pass and organize the offence.

Scottie's leap in the making is awesome to see. He is well on his way to superstardom and should be able to anchor a good offence soon enough.

I'm disappointed they lost to Philly, twice, but that Philly team is primed and ready to compete for a chip. No harden is great for them. Embiid and Maxey are primetime and they have a great corps of role players. Tobias as a number 3 is perfect for him. If healthy, I think that Philly team has a good shot this season.

The Raps still have alot to figure out but this is so much better than last season. The defence has been solid so far, Scottie is unleashed finally and I really don't see the issue with Pascal and Scottie sharing the floor. Pascal appears to be satisfied being secondary to Scottie, and his defence so far has been pretty damn good, much better than last season. We lack shooting, the bench especially has struggled. Some flashes from Flynn is encouraging. Love what I'm seeing from Dick...shots aren't dropping like you'd want but this kid is ready to play at the NBA level. Trent has been the biggest disappointment for me so far but it's early and he can get going any time I'm sure. A healthy Precious and Koloko would really round out the roster and complete the team.

Overall, I like what I'm seeing so far.

I'm ecstatic with Scotties progress, but I wouldn't mind seeing what he is capable of. If more of the offense is running through him and he's doing a good job of it then why not give it a try? If DS is on the floor at the same time then fine but having a shooter there instead makes more sense. I just want to see Scottie itiating all the offense to see what he can handle. It's a development/experimental year so if it doesn't work there's no loss there. Just go back to starting DS.

Let's see them with OG both times and with us not on back to backs while they are rested. We played both games tight (or led) at the half and faded in the 3rd (and for the second game, the very end of the third). They're better but the difference is not that much. So far, unfortunately, the only team I'm worried about is Boston. Will be interesting to see how our game goes.
