It's absolutely bat shit insane that any sports book would take a prop bet of $80K.

Not sure how that even happened it's usually limited to $1K or less.
Especially when a nobody who has never had that amount of betting put on him can guarantee a payout by simply feignng injury believing that pro sports book with the most advanced AI looking for irregularities would miss it ....

Story on SportsNet this morning included some details like ~13 of Jontay's bets were placed through dummy accounts, indicating clearly that he knew what he was doing was verboten. What a complete clown.

The investigation started once the league learned from “licensed sports betting operators and an organization that monitors legal betting markets” about unusual gambling patterns surrounding Porter's performance in a game on March 20 against Sacramento. The league determined that Porter gave a bettor information about his own health status prior to that game and said that another individual — known to be an NBA bettor — placed an $80,000 bet that Porter would not hit the numbers set for him in parlays through an online sports book. That bet would have won $1.1 million.

Porter took himself out of that game after less than three minutes, claiming illness, none of his stats meeting the totals set in the parlay. The $80,000 bet was frozen and not paid out, the league said, and the NBA started an investigation not long afterward.

There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams, and everyone associated with our sport, which is why Jontay Porter’s blatant violations of our gaming rules are being met with the most severe punishment,” Silver said.

Which is hilarous considering the league is built on questionnable refereeing and bias to stars and certain markets

I love the fact that they always leave the feed going for a bit after Masai leaves the press conference and the people there are oblivious. They started talking about how long the presser was...about 45 minutes. Who guessed that? Did they use bet365? Did they bet the under? Then, of course, you know where the conversation went from there..."did you get tips from Jontay?" .....then it cut out

What’s crazy is that even with this bullshit we were starting to think he could be a keeper. Imagine if he played at his best lol

Betting against his own team is a cardinal sin and then pulling himself isn't much better. He could have likely survived betting on games but not this other stuff. What kind of org anywhere in the world could trust him?
They probably wouldn't care in China.

Either way I expect an apology tour where he goes to gambling rehab.

He's certainly done in the NBA. He's good enough to play overseas but will they want him with this gambling scandal?

He does have a brother making over $30M per year so I think he will end up OK.

I've watched people throw their careers away over drugs, booze, women and gambling. You can get back from it but the part of your life you threw away is over.

I hope Johtay gets help. People with gambling addiction destroy their lives.

the league said. "Three of the bets were multi-game parlay bets that included one Raptors game, in which Porter bet that the Raptors would lose. All three bets lost." lmao

No. I'm serious. I just want to know if they asked him any Vince Carter plans for next year.

Jontay threw his whole career away to make some extra money.

He made one bet on the Raptors to lose too. Considering he is on the team, but that's biggest no no.
