  • Jontay Porter?

In his 2 games with the 905, Jontay Porter has looked promising. I did a little digging to see what his srtory is.

Just turned 24 and is the younger brother of NBA champion Michael Porter.

He came to college as a 17 year old freshman in the 17/18 season and played 1 year at Missou. He tore up his ACL twice in the 2018/19 season and did not play but declared for the 2019 draft and went undrafted.

He had a cup of coffee with Memphpis in 2020/21 and has bounced around the G-league for his early pro career.

He definatley can stretch the floor, but shows some touch in the post with a lefty jump hook (strong hand) and some passing chops as well.

He shoots the 3 from the top of the arc well so would be a nice pick and pop option as well as a guy who can space to the corners.

It appears he has filled out and is more prepared to handle NBA bigs, he is moving well and the injuries may be behind him, although always a concern.

He may be a guy we see long term on teh big club.

Seems like a decent stretch PF/C. I'd certainly rather have him on the roster than Thad or Temple.

Nowell has been cooking in the G League as well. It would be nice to get him some looks on the big team. Same with Freeman Liberty.

I want to see Freman-Liberty get a bit of run with the big club as well. He's only played 4 games for the 905 so far but brings a little of what we don't have right now in the back court.

Jontay reminds me of a better shooting Marvin Bagley. Once he gets his feet wet witht the 905 I would like to see him up with teh big club for a stretch as well. With Koloko's future a mystery, we need a young big in the pipeline.

Maybe once we make some trades we start calling up some of the two way guys.

yeah i posted about him last night in the everything raptors thread since this thread didn't exist at the time. seems like a stretch big who can pass out of the high post, which is a great fit on this roster.

hopefully he can develop and stay healthy

Porter had a strong game last night in a rare win for the 905. 26 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. He was matched up with Nikola Jovic of the Miami Heat, a young prospect who has shown some flashes in the NBA but still needs some strength and experience.

In 4 games with the 905 he is averaging 18, 9.3, 4.3, 1.8 and 3 with shooting splits of 58% from the field, 64% from 3 and 100% from the free throw line (only 4 attempts)

His threes really dropping with 905. Last time I checked his gleague stats he was shooting around 30%

Last year with the Wisconsin Herd he shot 41% over 15 games. This year he started with the Motor City Cruise and shot poorly over his 10 games at 27.3%, his 905 numbers have pushed him to 35% on the season. A few more games with the 905 will give us a clearer idea of who he can be, Right now the squad is getting helathy and has some nice balance to the roster. Some cohesion should pay off with some wins.

he could be robert horry type if he loved the game of basketball and we ran a traditional offense. he is a true PF. personally i would play him PF and C in very limited situations he still needs to earn this spot for me

i would like to see a 10 day with the big team to see if he fits

Why is there a question mark in the title?
                    Just curious.

I put it there to highlight that fact that it is a question whether he is an NBA rotational player and a potential future Raptor for real, not a two way guy.

He's on a 2 way so we can bring him up whenever, don't need a 10 day contract.

Just noticed, how come we don't have a Nowell thread? he's 905's best player.

Another strong game in a win today. 24 points, 9/13 (4/5 from 3) with 9 boards, 3 dimes and a block.

Porter also had zero turnovers with 2 fouls and was a plus 17.

in my books from what i have seen he is precious replacement. he has a high basketball IQ, not sure why he hasnt been brought up yet.

he is a very good screener and passer, i see mid range game and post game and 3 pt range. i want to see nowell, gradey and porter together. then i want to see porter with scottie
