If we sign Porter in-season, we can only offer him a 2 year deal since we used our exceptions in the off-season, and one of those years is this year.

If we wait until the off-season, we can offer up to 4 years term.

We won't have Bird Rights for Porter, but we should have RFA rights, as he has only 2 years of NBA time under his belt. So we'd need cap room or an exception to be able to match an offer. I doubt that would be a real issue though.
Thanks for this info. Let's hope he is made to feel welcome and can see himself with a regular role on this team so that he wants to sign with us in the off-season.

Another solid outing so far for Jontay. Making his 3s but missing some bunnies. Showing some sneak shot-blocking ability again.

Porter looking like a keeper. Guy knows how to play. What a find.

Can I edit that as the thread starter?

Dude's got some skills, especially that lefty jump hook – nasty! And that 3-point game? Solid. The injury history is a bit sketchy, but if he's over that hump, we might have a real gem on our hands.

Maybe Pascal was right when he said he needed a floor spacing centre. Miles shot 60% from three on 10 attempts last night. To that I say.....Jontay Porter? I'm interested to see how he holds up against Randle and Hartenstein tonight. Oh yeah, tonight. Let's get a thread going.

Decent game from Porter last night. He hit his 3s, grad 7 boards, has a couple steals and 3 dimes in 19 minutes off the bench. I hope once Jakob is back he can continue that play in the same role. The Nwora, Grady, Porter bench unit could be fun to watch develope as as the season progresses.

Could really use some time in the weight room so he can bang with the big bodies of the NBA - in the Al Horford mode. Horford must have longer arms because he's still a bigger dunk-threat than Porter at his advanced age, but ability to pass, shoot, play good position D is there.

Frankly he should be playing way more than Thad. But yes, once we're healthy he should have the full time backup minutes for sure.
