  • Interesting comments from Sam Vecenie's The Athletic mock today:

"NBA teams largely agree this is a down class from the top of the draft through the top-10. However, many believe the middle of the first round, going all the way to the No. 20-25 range, features intriguing options before the class levels out again in the second round. Most of the intriguing wings are likely to be taken near the top of the class, with that middle portion of the first round littered with big men and guard depth that could yield several long-term NBA players. I anticipate fewer All-Stars this season than the six or so that come from a normal draft class, but the number of players who stick in the NBA may be about the same."
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

I watched him play too. How do you know he's good or not? he was on a mins restriction.
He averaged 20mpg, that's half a game in college and he was 6th on the team in minutes per game.

Typically 6th men aren't described as being on a minutes restriction but OK.

Plenty of time to show if you suck or not and he sucked badly. He had 8 games over 20mpg and he sucked in those too. He started 6 games and sucked. He sucked no matter how many or few minutes he played.

His lack of minutes came down to lack of production and lack of deserving minutes, all on a bad team to boot.

      36% FG
      26% 3PT
      67% FT

Does playing 20mpg make you suck at shooting?

He's never done anything to show he's an NBA talent. He even measured out small. Literally nothing going for him other than Daddys name.

      • One more item from Vecenie:

"The Raptors are a difficult team to gauge. Their No. 31 pick is seen as a valuable one league-wide, as the addition of a second night of the draft enables Toronto to have an overnight bidding war for the selection. They could consider moving this No. 19 pick and sliding down the board to get multiple bites at the apple, depending on who is available."

If someone wants to pony up their 2025 1st for the 31st pick this year I'm all for it. Not sure what else entices us between rounds.

          • Trading 19 to get multiple picks in twenties seems counter-productive

Yeah people were debating me saying the entire draft was crap. It never was. Just doesn't have a top end. But the middle/bottom is as good as any other draft.

Don't think anyone would give up a 2025 1st if that draft is as strong as reported. But I would definitely trade 31 for a 2026 or beyond 1st.

What I could see is a contender trading a 2025 1st for Brown and 31 - getting them a rotation player and a chance to add a 1st round level talent on a minimum salary (which counts as the true rookie minimum for tax purposes).

I'm sure they would. Matching his salary probably means it only happens if they are interested in trading Lopez and shifting toward playing Giannis at the 5 full time. Raps could probably find a three team trade where Lopez lands with a quasi-contender that needs a vet stretch 5 and would give up a 2025 protected pick or a mid-1st this year for him.

Yeah I believe Bucks have to pick who to keep between Portis, Pat and Lopez. I wonder which way they would go

OKC makes a lot of sense for Lopez. He'd fit in there perfectly actually.

So you're telling me that you watched every USC games?

Bronny's a guy who the started the season on a minutes restriction. He's also a guy who months before the season started underwent a heart procedure to treat a heart defect.

What I'm saying is it's not fair to evaluate him after that one year that he had.

Anyway, I keep saying here for months that I'd like to see them draft a PG in the 2nd round. Bronny is one. So why not? it's the SECOND round. Who cares.
