The odds in favor of the Raps keeping their pick and possibly moving up in the draft could very well improve by end of season. There may not be any clear cut generational talents in the draft, but there are a bunch of guys that could fit well with Scottie. Sarr looks like he could be one of them should we be so lucky as to win the top pick.
I think the bottom 4 are settled. Raptors won't get to their level.

Portland is at 5 right now and they still have vets like Brogdan and Grant. Will they keep them past the deadline? I hope they do.

Memphis is at 7 but I think they want to do that Tampa tank with Ja out the whole year.. and I could see them resting JJJ with some fake injury to finish the year.

Brooklyn is at 8 and I don't think we catch them, although fans of the play-in obviously hope they do.

Personally I think we end up 7th worst. And then a hail marry prayer to get into the top 4. We did that in 2021 so maybe we get lucky again?

      Or unlucky in my opinion.

It's not the end of the world keeping the pick but I think we're gonna be bad next year too and I'd love to be able to lean into it and just play young guys heavy minutes. There are gonna be way more teams tanking next year, it won't be easy to keep a top 6 protected pick. I'm not thrilled about giving up our pick next year so we can draft Dalton Knecht this year.
Why would more teams tank next year? They didn't last year and last year had a potential generational guy at #1.

So who's going to be awesome from 7-14 next year? That we can't miss on?

Entire draft class is rated way higher by everyone that does that for a living. You're free to think they're all clueless if you want.

10 teams tanked last year. That's more than this year.

I want the freedom to develop guys without worry where the pick ends up. Would be really easy to try and tank and still not end up bottom 6 next year.

No, from what I read this draft doesn't have a generational talent in the top 4. But that doesn't affect our draft next year who likely has one.

I mean you absolutely don't want to give up the #7-#14 pick next year so give me names. Let's see how great those guys are compared to the top 6 in this years draft.

Don't stop there. Add in the NBA front office execs actually making the picks, and that's usually a safe bet.

How do you define tanking? Where do you get 10 teams from? To get to the top 4 being a 10th rank team that had a winning percentage of 46% is not tanking.

Like I said, only 5 teams were below .402 last year. Yet there are 7 so far this year that are in a worse draft year (potentially). And last year had a special #1.

And if we go back to Feb 5 last year.. only two teams in the West were really bad (Lakers at 13th were 25-29). In the East there were three teams (Orlando/Toronto at 11th/12th were 25-30).

So I would say you are wrong here.

                    • Lets get two lottery picks. Spurs can have 2026

                      • I think we make a good leap next year. We only have two starter positions to fill with probable growth with the three starters. We have picks and some money. We arent Detroit. Next year playoffs and pick 17 or higher. And for the guys who said this years poeltl first wouldnt be high - stay quiet (wink emoji, my emojis dont work)

                        • Ya, I'm starting to think we will be decent next year. When we have the lineup healthy they aren't a bottom 6 team. You add a few rotation players in FA, or through trade in the summer, Grady gets a bit better, add a top 6 rookie we might even get out of the lottery. Like the Tampa year, when things aren't going well, commit to that. Can we get to 5th worst? It's possible.

And that's why we should go for the high pick this year. A half season has gone by with about as much disruption as you can imagine with trades, new players and a new coach. Next year can't possibly be as bad as this one in terms of wins and losses.

                            • Hopefully we can still get into the 2025 draft regardless, we'll see in a couple days.

As we wait for tip off tonight, the Raps, on pure merit, are picking 6th overall pre lottery ..
We can probably get to 5.
No way in gods green earth do we out suck Detroit, San Antonio The Whiz and the Hornets.
At 5 or 6 in a draft with no clear consensus number1 rising up.....maybe we find the best overall player in the draft.
