We almost have to pick a big don't we? Scottie or Jak miss any time due to injury we are kinda screwed.
We are screwed regardless if those two get hurt. And we're in no hurry to field a good team. We're rebuilding. Raptors can get a big in next years draft and that draft has some quality bigs as well.

If the Raptors take a guard you just play 3-4 of them at a time like Indiana did. It's not the 90's.

With that said I think they take Filipowski. He has great advanced stats and is still young. Stretch big that plays a Darko style game.

    • Filipowski is well worth taking a swing at him turning into a legit stretch 5, which is a game changer in the NBA these days, and the perfect fit around Scottie.

Pick #31 is usually hit or miss anyway. Worst case, Filipowski becomes Olynyk 2.0, which is still a useful NBA player.

      • whoever they take... they should absolutely take a player who doesn't take away minutes from Jalen Smith.

        • So apparently Tyler Kolek is illiterate. And he's 23. So two big red flags.

Kyle Flipowski meanwhile had hip surgery last summer so he could be more flexible and bendy. I don't know how I feel about that. Is he going to be injury prone?

How is this a red flag?

Not being able to read and he's 23? So he didn't take any classes? He's a 4 year senior in college. How did he finish exams? It's just super weird and odd. What if you give him a playbook and it has notes. Can he read those notes?

Maybe it's ends up not hurting him or the team he's playing for.. but it's definitely a red flag.

              • I like the idea of moving down.

Maybe it's Portland with two picks in this draft.

Maybe it's someone else with a pick in this draft and a second round pick in next years.

Seems like a lot of good prospects still, might as well capitalize on it and get another pick.

Kolek has a Learning Disability (LD). He was able to overcome that and graduate with a 4.0 GPA. I would say him overcoming that challenge, and excelling as a student athlete, would be nothing but a positive. Your comment was very ignorant, you may want to educate yourself on the topic…maybe Tyler can help you with that.

                      • Filipowski is the pick for me. He's BPA, fills a need, and has a modern NBA center game.

I don't love the Kelly comp unless we're talking floor. Filipowski was better in year 2 college then Kelly was in year 3 when he got drafted. More rebounds, assists, blocks, way more 3s and at a much higher 3p%.

I had Kyle as a top 20 pick, so to get him at 31 would be awesome.

I also had Walter as a lotto pick so this would be about as good as we could hope for.

                        Don't fuck it up Masai.

I know what learning disabilities are, and I did not know he had that. I also did not know he had a 4.0 GPA. I didn't read up on any of that. Just saw some notes about him being illiterate and failing some test. I should have done my due diligence but I appreciate when I'm proven wrong.

Do you have any quick links you can share about his challenges he overcame?

He appears to be a good fit in Darko’s system. Defense doesn’t really concern me too much. If we ever get to the point where it really matters teams/players step up and do what is required.

He wasn't a bad defender by any means. Not sure where that narrative came from. His arms are short for his height, but he's 7' so it doesn't matter all that much. He still averaged 1.5 blocks a game. His advanced stats all look great. I think he'll be a decent defender in the NBA.

                              • I also think Flip's defence is better than advertised. He can move his feet, and contests shots well near the rim even if he's not a sky high shot blocker. Defensive rebounding is fine (overall rebounding is low because he doesn't offensive rebound being a spacer 5), he has quick hands for steals in the lane...
