  • Why has Tross Regressed?

After having a good year last season prior to disappearing in the Playoffs, Tross has been a disappointment this season to say the least.....

My question is why has Tross become a defensive liability this season after being a good defender last season and why has his offense not made any improvements?

Offense is mostly due to the system. We weren't running an ISO system last season and Ross benefited from us running actual sets. He's a great catch and shoot guy.

Now he's expected to catch, dribble three feet forward, then pull up and shoot. Not his game.

I'm assuming he's letting his offense dictate his defense because he's lost his focus defensively.

    TL;DR Casey is an idiot

Defense: The entire team's defense has regressed.

Offense: his role card says catch and shoot. so when the shot doesn't fall.. he doesn't have anything to fall back on to pick it up.

Other intangibles that have contributed to his regression includes: Baby mama drama, Too much 2K15, Laziness, Not having any fucks in his pocket to give and lack of balls to raise his voice to ask for expanded role.

Nailed it for me. I think there's a lot going on with TRoss that maybe we don't know ... I hope so anyway. I had such high hopes for him.

              Cuz Casey and stuff.

This board has gotten overboard. You'd think Casey started the holocaust at this point. Everyone else is having decent statistical offensive years (Lowry, DD, JV, Lou). At some point the athlete is more important than the coach. Terrence Ross just isn't that good. He'll be a career 3 pt "specialist" with crazy hops (in the open court), and good defense WHEN he decides to use his length and athleticism. So with that said, he'll have a long career as a 7-8th guy on good teams. But I don't think will ever see a borderline all star or anything like many had hoped a year or 2 ago.

Everybody is down statistically, across the board

Sophomore slump. It's a term often used for high end rookies who get loads of minutes their first year and have some success, then get scouted the next year and have to learn, probably for the first time, to counter a scouting report. Rookie wall happens too, but that's a stamina thing. This is the sophomore slump.

And yes, I know he's not a sophomore. But he barely played his first year. Last year he got big minutes on a playoff team, and the playoffs were the first time he'd been heavily scouted and he struggled. Same goes for this year. I expect him to return to form defensively next season. And when used properly he is still the floor-spacing weapon he was last year.

I think Sophmore slump is misleading. It isn't the actual year but giving the league about a year to scout then players having to adjust as defenses take things away and offenses attack weakness. It doesn't necessarily mean a players second year in the league. Ross is being driven off the line more and player play him physically. Don't think having him drive is the answer and defensively he needs to get much stronger

He has the ability to push back up, but I'm not sure if he will. His confidence seems to have been annihilated.

Simple, he wasted his time to do a shitty voice job in NBA 2K15, and not develop his game. Should of had Tyler Hansborough or Chuck Hayes do the voicing instead.

I agree that TRoss benefits from a system with good ball movement. Patterson and Vasquez, too. With so much isolation in this offence those guys will suffer.

Also, I think he's being played out of position, and he has been frustrated by that.

The off court stuff probably doesn't help either.

He's had a tough year, I hope Masai and Casey can put him in a position to succeed next season.

To me he doesn't look lazy or uninterested, just frustrated at times, and I don't think he always knows how to contribute. He's been playing through it and hasn't given up on the team, so he should get credit for that.

Also, I think the allegations of laziness are hilarious. You think a guy gets that skilled and athletic by sitting around and eating potato chips?
